Thursday mornings at 8:20, the WQMX Wynn
and Wilson morning show welcomes GeorjetteThomas
from One Of A Kind Pet Rescue.
She tells
us about some special animals that need a home.
It's our goal to not only find a home for our
featured homeless pet, but to educate and encourage
animal adoption in our area..
Although
we feature mostly dogs on this site, there are
many wonderful cats available at One Of A Kind
Pets too.
True to its name, One Of A
Kind is truly a one of a kind place with a special
mission. They not only rescue animals off the
street, but they also go to "the pound" and
rescue animals who are about to be euthanized.
They literally save these animals from certain
death. You can visit their adoption center
located at 1699 West Market Street, Akron,Ohio

Meet Balto!
Meet Balto ... immaculate Balto! He is so pretty and clean. One eye is blue and the other is brown & blue --- which gives him a unique look. Clearly he gets this trait from the Husky breed in him. He picks his canine friends wisely and doesn't like just anybody. Which is okay by me ... I don't like just anybody either!! He loves to talk and has a language all of his own. We're not talking barking ... tho all dogs do a little of that too. Balto will need kind & consistent training because he is a neglected guy and shows signs of being unsure. With your patience and consistency, he will learn and become your next best friend - and the pet companion you've always wanted. Containment is "key" - either on the end of a safely installed lead / leash or in a fenced yard - when rescuing a dog until trust and boundary training is established. Furthermore, dogs do not fare well when encountering a moving car & Huskies like to run! Keep in mind ... many dogs cannot ever be trusted off-lead. Do you have up to 15 years to share with a selfless dog? Do you understand the commitment? Can you provide a "forever home?" Do you have what it takes to be the best pet parent ever? If you can answer "yes" to these questions we can talk about a future for Balto!
Besides being pregnant, outside, and neglected, Jenny was found to be heartworm positive. It's amazing she lived through birth and then the nursing of these eight puppies. The puppies are fully vetted, doing great, are healthy and ready for your home! They will grow to be a rather large dog but will do great indoors.
It is recommended that they not go to home where the owner is not present up to 8 - 9 hours each day. The longest they can be left alone is for 4 hours at a time. With appropriate attention and routine they will grow to be the adult dog you'd want them to be. Without the proper amount of human interaction, love, and training, they run the risk of ending up in a shelter later in life and we don't want that!!!
Do you have 15 years to commit to a deserving dog? Do you understand the commitment? Do you have what it takes to be the best pet parent ever? If so, we have the best pups ever! Their next home must be their last! They doesn't deserve another "life change" - NOT EVER! Note: Mom, Jenny, is now vetted and available for adoption.
COON HOUND PUPS are up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered

Coon Hound Puppies!!!
These Beautiful pups are black and tan Coon Hounds and are the spitting image of their Mother. Their mother, Jenny, was very pregnant and lived most of her life tied up outside. She was thin and under fed. Amazingly, she gave birth to 10 puppies. Eight of them survived.

Meet Paxton
Gotta love a hound /
Beagle! We do!!!
Paxton is a good
looking hound - mix breed dog. He is taller
than his picture makes him appear. Rescued
from animal control, it is apparent he has
been through some training and needs a home
with owners who can continue the commands
he has previously learned. He is mild mannered
and wants to please. He is one affectionate
boy! This young boy appears to be about
1 ˝ years old and has a lot of living to
do! Will he be doing it with you?
NOTE: About Beagles and Hounds ... besides
being one of the most fun and entertaining
breeds, they have an extremely keen sense
of smell. Their noses will take them just
about anywhere! Under a fence ... thru a
hole ... well, you get the picture! Make
sure your Beagle has identification tags
on. Tags are even better than a microchip
when searching for your lost pet. Microchips
are a second assistance when trying to locate
your lost pet - especially if they have
slipped out of their collar.
Now
through his quarantine period, he is ready
to experience love and security in the safe
arms of a committed owner and to meet his
"forever home and family." Never to be orphaned
again!!! Containment is "key" - either on
the end of a safely installed lead / leash
or in a fenced yard - when rescuing a dog
until trust and boundary training is established.
Furthermore, small dogs (or any for that
matter) do not fare well when encountering
a moving car. Keep in mind ... many dogs
cannot ever be trusted off-lead and Beagles
are one breed that this often applies to!
Do you have up to 15 years to share
with a selfless dog? Do you understand the
commitment? Can you provide a "forever home?"
Do you have what it takes to be the best
pet parent ever? If you can answer "yes"
to these questions we can talk about a future
for Paxton!

Meet Bentley
You're not going to believe
this one ... As 2 Good Samaritans sat admiring
their beautiful yard from their front porch,
a speeding car with 2 young men flew around
the corner and tossed little Bentley from
the car like a bowling ball! As the kind
people jumped to their feet and ran down
to get him, Bentley appeared to be in shock.
Picking him up and offering him their safe
arms, they nurtured him for the day and
then immediately brought him to us.
Over and over again, we continually
ask ourselves, what type of person does
this to a selfless animal? And over and
over again, we are stunned by the actions
of humanity! Now healthy, vetted, and full
of confidence, Bentley is ready for his
new home. Might it be yours? Helpful Hint:
Make sure your dog has identification tags
- or abused - again!!! Containment is "key"
- either on the end of a safely installed
lead / leash or in a fenced yard - when
rescuing a dog until trust and boundary
training is established. Furthermore, small
dogs (or any for that matter) do not fare
well when encountering a moving car. Keep

best pet parent ever? If you can answer
"yes" to these questions we can talk about
a future for Bentley!

Meet Ivy
Most of us appreciate
the look of ivy in a beautifully landscaped
area and many of us will plant it along
a fence in hopes that it will grab the slats
and become a trellis of foliage. Left to
its own, ivy will thrive, become strong,
and claim the fence for life. Overtime,
we admire the result and believe that this
is right were ivy belongs. But our little
Ivy didn’t belong there …
Ivy was
found alone and tethered to a fence. Unlike
the foliage, it was apparent that this very
small dog would never grow strong, nor thrive,
in this situation. As she sat next to an
empty water dish and beside a small mound
of dog food, Ivy trembled in fear and confusion.
Who left her in this vulnerable
situation? Had she weathered the violent
storm from the night before? Was she once
loved? What were they thinking? Working
in animal welfare we experience sadness
daily yet we still stand in disbelief to
witness such a pathetic scene.
Once
in our care, a traumatized Ivy ate very
little and slept a lot over the next 3 days.
Clearly depressed and weak, we gave her
all of the time, attention, and space she
needed to decompress and trust. Now fully
vetted and confident, Ivy is ready to go
home and live out her remaining days as
a valued and loved family member ... never
to be tied out and abandoned again! If you
are interested in adopting Ivy please call

Meet Daughtry
What
a kind and beautiful little girl Daughtry
is! And, she is a "favorite" with our kennel
staff.
Daughtry loves people young
and old; however, she chooses her canine
friends wisely. One minute she likes them
and the next minute she has little patience
with them. That said, we believe she'd do
best in a "one" dog home. Oddly, her feline
friends can meander around her all that
they'd like without incidence.
Daughtry
will need kind & consistent training because
she was a neglected girl and is concerned
for her own future. She is potty trained
and crate trained. Though this sweet girl
has her reservations with other dogs, she
is amazing with our volunteers and staff.
Respectful of children, Daughtry will do
well in any home. Given the slightest bit
of attention, Daughtry will do her playful,
submissive bow with butt-up and relish in
the moment.
With your patience and
consistency, she will learn and become your
next best friend - and the pet companion
you've always wanted. Containment is "key"
- either on the end of a safely installed
lead / leash or in a fenced yard - when
rescuing a dog until trust and boundary
training is established. Furthermore, dogs
do not fare well when encountering a moving
car. Keep in mind ... many dogs cannot ever
be trusted off-lead.
Do you have
up to 15 years to share with a selfless
dog? Do you understand the commitment? Can
you provide a "forever home?" Do you have
what it takes to be the best pet parent
ever?
If you can answer "yes" to
these questions we can talk about a future
for Daughtry!

Meet Hank
Meet Hank
the dog ... we are glad we did! Having made
several trips, over several weeks, to an
animal control facility, we believed this
calm senior would surely be adopted by a
member of the community quickly. Sadly,
this didn't happen to be the case. As Dawn
(Director of Adoption and Animal Operations)
made her way thru the facility, she was
shocked to see Hank still residing in a
cage. After all, he had now been there nearly
2 months! Why was this calm boy still fearful
and cowering in the back of the cage? Why
did he prefer his blanket over the possibility
of getting his ears scratched by a human
being? Why was this senior destined to endure
this? Well ... minutes after noticing him
again, Dawn packed him up and he was on
his way with her! Hank will need a very
kind owner. Someone that will never forget
what all this boy has been thru and understand
his senior energy. This boy needs a safe
place to rest his head for the remaining
years of his life. Might that "safe landing"
be at your home? Now through his quarantine
period, he is ready to experience love and
security in the safe arms of a committed
owner and to meet his "forever home and
family." Never to be orphaned again!!! He
will need kind & consistent training. With
your patience and consistency, he will learn

Meet Bosley
Meet
7 month old Bosley ... a puppy mill dog
... Finding purpose in ones life is not
always a clear journey. Many people have
direction at a very early age and for some
of us the path is winding. Eventually, and
without a predetermined length of time,
we all get to define our purpose individually.
Imagine being assigned a purpose and having
no control of your future. Worse yet, imagine
an allocated number of days to perform mandated
tasks and when your task is completed you
no longer have a purpose. This is the definition
of a puppy mill. Moms and Dads are kept
in cages, required to perform on demand,
and must produce the most desirable size,
color, and tempered pups for the purpose
of monetary gains for the breeder. If puppies
grow too old they are disposed of and if
adult dogs are no longer productive in their
breeding they too will loose their life.
Most of these beautiful pets have never
experienced freedom of any kind. Recently,
fourteen beautiful purebred dogs were rescued
from an execution in the back of a barn.
You see, they had outlived their usefulness.
Ranging in ages from 4 months to 4 years,
these sweet dogs were now considered poor
breeders and were scheduled to be destroyed.
We believe these deserving dogs performed
and met the demands of mankind and now want
them to know the love, security, and compassion
that humanity can offer them. Bosley will
need kind & consistent training because
he is a neglected boy and shows signs of
being insecure and immature. With your patience
and consistency, he will learn and become
your next best friend - and the pet companion
you've always wanted. Containment is "key"
- either on the end of a safely installed
lead / leash or in a fenced yard - when
rescuing a dog until trust and boundary
training is established. Furthermore, dogs
do not fare well when encountering a moving
car. Keep in mind ... many dogs cannot ever
be trusted off-lead. Do you have up to 15
years to share with a selfless dog? Do you
understand the commitment? Can you provide
a "forever home?" Do you have what it takes
to be the best pet parent ever? If you can
answer "yes" to these questions we can talk
about a future for Bosley!

Meet Video A note from Video's
foster care provider:
Video
is an adorable 1 year old male Irish Wolfhound
mix-breed dog. A few months ago he was found
by a good Samaritan wandering the streets
in Cleveland - all alone.
This poor
boy was almost hit by a car and it was obvious
that he needed help. The young lady decided
to take him home, but because she lived
with her grandmother, she was unable to
keep him in her house; therefore, Video
slept in her car for nearly 3 weeks as she
searched for a home. Sadly, this sweet boy
ended up going to a few homes that did not
work out. One of the homes he spent time
with did not believe in crate training so
he did some chewing damage when they left
the house and left him alone in their basement.
Another family decided it would be a good
idea to tie him to a tree and leave him
out all night in the middle of one of those
awful storms we experienced some weeks back.
Clearly, the good Samaritan didn't have
the luxury of time when "screening" for
an appropriate home and family.
He has been through a lot in his short life.
He shows signs of neglected and abuse. Video
has been let down by people. Not surprisingly,
he suffers from some separation anxiety;
however, we are managing it.
My
/ our mission is to find him an appropriate
home. He is in foster care with me and my
family. He has been with us almost 4 weeks.
I have observed him to be a wonderfully
affectionate dog that really deserves a
chance at a great life.
He is completely
housebroken, he seems to understand what
"go potty" means. We believe at some point
in his life he was shown love and kindness.
Unfortunately, that all fell apart and he
ended up homeless.
He knows some
commands, sit, down, shake, stay and lie
down. He is really good with kids although
given his size he might be better suited
to older kids (7/8 and up). He loves to
play so like minded dogs are instant friends.
He interacts very well with dogs big & small.
Cats don't seem to interest him but squirrels
and birds do.
He walks well on a
leash but be prepared if he sees a squirrel!
We have a fenced in yard which he loves.
This dog is not a couch potato until after
9 pm. He loves investigating around the
yard and going on long walks. We crate him
at night which he is not a fan of but concedes.
He will go in the crate with a little encouragement
& a treat. I am sure he would rather cuddle
up next to you in bed (if you don't mind
the snoring).
He is still young
and he has a few issues ... he likes to
grab the kid's stuffed animals, run off
with them and try to chew them; however,
he has never tried to chew furniture in
my house! He seems to prefer things he can
carry.
He also needs to be watched
in the kitchen . He is the perfect size
to reach the kitchen table ... remember
when you have lived on the streets you learn
to be resourceful! These are all puppy like
issues that he can be changed. Its like
having a toddler around! I share this so
that you know what you might be getting
into and so that you know what work needs
to be done. We ultimately want to maximize
his opportunity for success in his forever
home. He needs a loving owner that will
give him the time and attention he deserves.
A consistent routine, reassurance and love
will do a lot to win his trust, not to mention
the return that you will get from your investment
... friendship of a loyal companion for
many years to come.
Video sheds,
is about 44 lbs and stands 27" at the shoulders.
A telephone conversation can be
had with his foster care provider @ 330.289.3690.

Meet Rocket
Gotta
Love A Hound --- we do and we are grateful
to those of you out there that love them
too! In fact, we believe he has some Coonhound
in him.
He is on the taller side
and is a lean boy. He is a kennel staff
“favorite!” Why? Because he is quiet (rare
for a hound), he is mild mannered, he gets
along with all of the other canine boarders,
and he wants to please his handler.
At approximately 6 years of age, Rocket
is looking for a home for the remainder
of his days. After all, he still has a lot
of living to do! Will he be doing it with
you? He will do fine in any home - with
or without children. His new owner will
need to understand that Rocket will require
the opportunity to exercise --- all hounds
need that! When they have the ability to
play & run off energy, they sleep better
and behave better.
About Hounds
... besides being one of the most fun and
entertaining breeds, they have an extremely
keen sense of smell. Their noses will take
them just about anywhere! Under a fence
... thru a hole ... well, you get the picture!
Make sure your Hound has identification

you provide a "forever home?" Do you have
what it takes to be the best pet parent

we can talk about a future for Rocket!

Meet Buster
Buster
is just BEAUTIFUL!!! This young boy (just
over 1 year old) is soft and sweet and absolutely
loving. He loves people, is good around
other dogs and is a gentle boy. A little
camera shy too!
He knows some commands
and he wants to please his handler. This
young adult dog is a love-bug and enjoys
time spent with human companions - but will
do well with other dogs too. Now through
his quarantine period, he is ready to experience
love and security in the safe arms of a
committed owner and to meet his "forever
home and family." Never to be orphaned again!!!

Meet Harley
Mix-breeds
are sooooooooooo unique and that surely
makes them One of A Kind!
Meet Harley
... he's got the best looks ever ... check
out his under bite ... could he be any cuter?
We don't think so! And this boy is a kennel
favorite! He is beyond sweet and will do
good in any home. We haven't any concerns
with him ...
He loves people, is
good around other dogs and is a pleasure.
He is mild mannered and wants to please

Meet Lady
These mix-breeds always break
my heart ... you see, they are often
overlooked because they don't appear
to have a dominant breed in their
bloodline. We believe Lady is a
mix of Shepherd and something else
(obviously) but haven't a clue as
to what the other side may be!?
The truth is ... she's probably
a mix of a lot of things! Does it
really matter? Whatever she is ...
she is beyond sweet, fun, and good-looking!
Lady is a medium size dog
weighing in at about 35 pounds.
She is on the lean side and is proportioned
beautifully. She came to us pregnant
and gave birth to a large litter.
With all of her puppies in homes,
it is now her turn to know love
and security.
Lady is young
(2 years) and has a lot of living
to do. Will she be doing it with
you? She will do fine in any home
- with or without children; however,
she appears to have moderate energy
and is a little on the timid side
in the shelter. This could change
once in a home. Her new owner will
need to understand that she will
require the opportunity to exercise
--- all dogs need that! When they
have the ability to play & run off
energy, they sleep better and behave
better.
Now through her
quarantine period, she is ready
to experience love and security
in the safe arms of a committed
owner and to meet her "forever home
and family." Never to be orphaned
again!!! She will need kind & consistent
training. With your patience and

understand the commitment? Can you
provide a "forever home?" Do you
have what it takes to be the best
pet parent ever? If you can answer
"yes" to these questions we can
talk about a future for Lady!
Reminder: Make sure your
dog has identification tags on and
all information is current. Tags
are even better than a micro-hip
when searching for your lost pet.
Micro-chips are a second assistance
when trying to locate your lost
pet - especially if they have slipped
out of their collar. Tags can be
purchased for "pennies" at the adoption
center and will save you "millions"
in upset should your pet become
lost!
Lady is up-to-date
with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Meet Louie!
Hi, I’m
Louie. There were three of us but
my brothers, Duey & Huey, got into
their “forever home” just a few
days ago. Now, I think it is my
turn!!! I need you now more than
ever. This is the age when I begin
to understand structure and routine.
I won't go to a home where
the owner is not present between
8 - 9 hours each day. The longest
I can be left alone is for 4 hours
at a time. With appropriate time
spent together, training, and a
routine, I will grow to be the adult
dog you want me to be. Without proper
structure and kind training, I run
the risk of ending up in a shelter
when I’m older - and, that's a fate
I don't want!!!
Labradors
are the #1 most desired breed in
this country; however, the #1 most
euthanized breed too. Why? Because
breeders "over-breed" to meet the
demands of what the public wants.
At 8 weeks of age, Labs are purchased
with no understanding of the breed
and are OFTEN surrendered to "pounds"
when owners tire of the demands
of the dog.
These guys require
your help to become the best dogs
ever. And they are the best dogs
ever when loved and treated appropriately!
Get educated and make the right
choices! Are you committed to the
process? Is your lifestyle appropriate?
Do you have 15 years? If so, I may
be your next BEST friend!!!
Louie is up-to-date with routine
shots and neutered.

Meet Bagel!
Bagel
couldn't be sweeter --- and we LOVE
Beagles around here. Check out his
sweet face ... Bagel is a little
confused ... after all, this was
once a loved and well cared for
young boy.
He was found
wandering and without identification
by a Good Samaritan. They looked
for his owner - as did we. We ran
an ad for 7 days in hopes of reuniting
Bagel to his owner - with no luck.
He has an impressive - kind of shy
- personality and is well behaved.
He just wants to go home! Once in
a "forever home" we believe he will
grow more confidence and turn into
a true "ornery, entertaining, and
fun" Beagle.

Meet Steve!
My
name is Steve and at this mature
age, I am shocked to have found
myself in a shelter. I was adopted
as a small puppy and returned 3
years later because my owner could
no longer keep me due to her lifestyle
change. I find this sad and confusing
...
Because of my size and
preference for men, I need an assertive
- yet kind - male handler. I am
larger than I appear in my pictures.
I get along with some dogs but I
pick my canine friends selectively.
I have been known to do a little
resource guarding; however, I pull
that stunt only on occasion. Just
call me a typical Shepherd! They
believe some of my sensitivity is
because I am pent up in the shelter
and they feel I'd do much better
in the appropriate home. I get a
little nervous around SMALL children;
so older children in the home will
work better for me.
Steve is a beautiful, striking
large German Shepherd mix-breed
boy. His hair is longer and he is
quite stunning. His size is intimidating.
He LOVES, LOVES, LOVES going for
walks. So, if you're a walker, he'll
be your best fitness companion.
THIS BOY KNOWS COMMANDS AND RESPONDS
WELL WHEN GIVEN COMMANDS!
Now through his quarantine period,
he is ready to experience love and
security in the safe arms of a committed
owner and to meet his "forever home
and family." Never to be orphaned
again!!! He will need kind & consistent
training. With your patience and
consistency, he will learn and become
your next best friend - and the
pet companion you've always wanted.
Containment is "key" - either
on the end of a safely installed
lead / leash or in a fenced yard
- when rescuing a dog until trust
and boundary training is established.
Furthermore, dogs do not fare well
when encountering a moving car.
Keep in mind ... many dogs cannot
ever be trusted off-lead.
Do you have up to 15 years to
share with a selfless dog? Do you
understand the commitment? Can you
provide a "forever home?" Do you
have what it takes to be the best
pet parent ever? If you can answer
"yes" to these questions we can
talk about a future for Steve!
Note from staff: in
the shelter environment, Steve needs
to warm up to new volunteers and
staff slowly; however, it seems
to happen within just a short time.
He's just not the kind of boy that
wants someone to come straight at
or over him. If done, he gets very
concerned for his own safety. Steve
is up-to-date with routine shots,
house trained and neutered.
Reminder: Make sure your dog
has identification tags on and all
information is current. Tags are
even better than a microchip when
searching for your lost pet. Microchips
are a second assistance when trying
to locate your lost pet - especially
if they have slipped out of their
collar. Tags can be purchased for
"pennies" at the adoption center
and will save you "millions" in
upset should your pet become lost!

Meet Golden!
He's a charmer!
We believe
this sweet boy to be a Golden Min-Pin
weighing in at about 10 pounds.
Golden Min-Pins aren't real common.
He's a bit on the "portly" side
because he has been over indulged
by a loving owner ... a senior citizen
that died too soon. Once use to
a quiet house and a couch, he now
has found himself living in a shelter.
He is a love bug and appears to
do well with everyone he meets.
Current on his vaccines, neuter,
and vetting, Golden is ready for
his "forever home."
Do you
have up to 15 years to spend with
a selfless dog? Are you a committed
per parent? Is your lifestyle appropriate?
Do you promise to keep Golden contained
and secure? After all, these "teeny"
dogs do not fair well up against
a moving vehicle. If you can answer
to these questions, we can talk
about Golden's future.
Golden
is up-to-date with routine shots,
house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Arnie!
I am a
Labrador Retriever and I need you
now more than ever. This is the
age when I should be able to let
down and relax ... feel loved and
secure.
I was rescued by
OOAKPR because I was living on the
streets with indigent men. OOAKPR
brought me in and fully vetted me.
Apparently, I needed a little extra
vetting but I am now good to go!
Because I am around 4 years of age
my energy level is perfect.
With appropriate time spent
together, minimal training, and
a routine, I will grow to be the
companion to you you'd want me to
be. Without proper structure and
kind training, deserving dogs run
the risk of ending up in a shelter
when they're older - and, that's
a fate we don't want!!!
Labradors are the #1 most desired
breed in this country; however,
the #1 most euthanized breed too.
Why? Because breeders "over-breed"
to meet the demands of what the
public wants. At 8 weeks of age,
Labs are purchased with no understanding
of the breed and are OFTEN surrendered
to "pounds" when owners tire of
the demands of the dog. These guys
require your help to become the
best dogs ever. And they are the
best dogs ever when loved and treated
appropriately!
Get educated
and make the right choices ... Are
you a committed pet parent and do
you understand the process? Is your
lifestyle appropriate? Do you have
15 years? If so, Arnie may be your
next BEST friend!!!
Arnie
is up-to-date with routine shots,
house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Brady!
My
name is Brady. They tell me I am
a flat coated retriever and I am
often referred to as stunning. I
get a little nervous around children
I don't know so my home of 4 years
surrendered me. It was shocking!
Once I get to know people,
I'm an excellent dog. I LOVE, LOVE,
LOVE going for walks. That said
... in the shelter environment,
I needed to warm up to new volunteers
and staff slowly; however, it doesn’t
take me long! Sometimes just minutes!
I’m just not the kind of boy that
wants someone to come straight at
or over me --- it scary to me!
Now through his quarantine
period, he is ready to experience
love and security in the safe arms
of a committed owner and to meet
his "forever home and family." Never
to be orphaned again!!! He will
need kind & consistent training.
With your patience and consistency,
he will learn and become your next
best friend - and the pet companion
you've always wanted.
Containment
is "key" - either on the end of
a safely installed lead / leash
or in a fenced yard - when rescuing
a dog until trust and boundary training
is established. Furthermore, dogs
do not fare well when encountering
a moving car. Keep in mind ... many

you understand the commitment? Can
you provide a "forever home?" Do
you have what it takes to be the
best pet parent ever?
If
you can answer "yes" to these questions
we can talk about a future for Brady!

Meet
Blazer … Suffering and
sick, tied to a tree, lonely and
destined to die.
Showing
signs of obvious neglect and testing
positive for heartworm, Blazer was
rescued at around 7 years of age.
Picked up off the street and brought
into the APL for an assessment,
the staff decided this sweet and
gentle boy was not only deserving
of treatment, but the opportunity
to know a “real” home and family.
In short time, Blazer’s
new family walked into the lobby
of the APL and adopted him. The
staff was so pleased to know that
his days of abuse and neglect were
over.
Or were they?
Two years later, canvassing
in a deeply wooded area for an abandoned
litter of puppies, the APL happened
upon a familiar face … tied to a
tree, and nowhere near a residence,
stood an emaciated Blazer.
How could this have happened
– again?
Immediately, OOAKPR
was contacted by the APL and asked
to assume responsibility for Blazer
and his medical treatment. Without
hesitation, Blazer was brought into
the clinic and treatment was administered.
Knowing his condition may worsen
before improvement, and not wanting
to leave him unattended, Joe, a
member of the kennel staff, spent
the entire night lying next to him
on the clinic floor.
At
nearly 10 years of age, and deserving
to know the kindness of humanity,
we are hopeful that an adopter will
come forward and offer Blazer the
best years of his life.
We Saved His Life
But You Can Give Him The
Gift Of A Real
Home.

Meet
Mr. Miagi!
How can
anyone resist this face? This boy
is a short-haired/Persian mix-breed
cat and he gets all the looks! Mr.
Miagi was originally rescued from
the pound and enjoyed the luxury
of a home and family for a considerable
amount of time. Sadly, and too soon,
he has found himself homeless once
again. After being part of this
new family for quite a long time,
his adopted parents faced some hardships
and couldn’t care for Mr. Miagi
any longer. This sweet boy has now
ended up back in a shelter thru
no fault of his own. We are looking
for a “forever home” for this sweet
boy because Mr. Miagi doesn’t deserve
to be orphaned again!

Meet
Oreo!
Is he not the
most expressive dog ever?! Check
out his smile --- he just can't
help himself!!! He wants to be happy.
It is thought that he is a Spaniel
mix-breed boy. This breed requires
daily exercise. Spaniels are energetic
and at 2 years of age, his energy
is fun! As with all dogs, daily
regular exercise will meet the needs
of Oreo and should make him (& his
new owner) a happy boy. This young
guy is good with other dogs & we
haven't any reservations with children.
Containment is "key" with all dogs
- especially the higher energy breeds
- until boundary training has been
performed, trust is established,
and they feel secure in their next
home. We recommend a fenced yard
or a safe and secure leash for brief
tie-out sessions. If you are a committed
pet parent and want to be part of
the development of a great dog that
now has the opportunity to thrive,
come to meet Oreo. Do you have up
to 15 years to commit? Can you provide
a "forever home?" Do you understand
what it takes to be a responsible
pet owner? If so, Oreo may be your
next best friend! Due to space constraints,
he is residing at our clinic. Please
call ahead to see him. We thank
all of you for your continued support
and for caring --- we care deeply
too. Oreo
is up-to-date with routine shots
and spayed/neutered.

Meet Cookie!
Is he not the most
cuddly looking dog ever?!
It is thought that he is a Dalmatian
mix-breed boy. This breed requires
daily exercise. Dalmatians are energetic
but at 5 years of age, his energy
is just about perfect! As with all
dogs, daily regular exercise will
meet the needs of Cookie and should
make him (& his new owner) a happy
boy. This young guy is good with
other dogs & we haven't any reservations
with children.
Containment
is "key" with all dogs - especially
the higher energy breeds - until
boundary training has been performed,
trust is established, and they feel
secure in their next home. We recommend
a fenced yard or a safe and secure
leash for brief tie-out sessions.
If you are a committed pet parent
and want to be part of the development
of a great dog that now has the
opportunity to thrive, come to meet
Cookie.
Do you have up to
15 years to commit? Can you provide
a "forever home?" Do you understand
what it takes to be a responsible
pet owner? If so, Cookie may be
your next best friend! Due to space
constraints, he is residing at our
clinic. Please call ahead to see
him.
We thank all of you
for your continued support and for
caring --- we care deeply too.

Meet Buddy!
Here's Buddy's story ...
Friendship brings so many blessings
to our lives. Sometimes the reward
is a confidant that offers a patient
ear and kind advice. At other times
it's the quiet calm of just being
in their company. Whatever the benefit,
we'd all agree that true friendships
are a valued gift. Buddy's story
is of deep friendship - and then
sorrow. He was the best friend to
an adult mentally challenged person.
Due to a sudden life-altering situation,
Buddy's life has changed and he
is now in need of a "forever home".
Buddy's days were spent providing
comfort, unconditional love and
companionship to his owner. It was
a very important job and he did
it well. His selfless and unending
love made her world a better place
and Buddy was happy to help - even
if it meant his world might change
someday too soon. Now in need of
a home and security, this 4 year
old Golden Retriever / Labrador
mix-breed boy awaits his next assignment.
Will it be the same? Or, will it
be a completely different life?
Whatever it will be, Buddy will
adapt nicely and be the most loyal
family member ever. This sweet boy
wants a home. Might his next home
be yours? If you are interested
in adopting Buddy please call 330.760.0763
for an appointment. Tax-deductible
donations can be made to: One of
A Kind Pet Rescue. Notation: Everyone
needs a Buddy! The adoption center
is located at 1699 West Market Street,
Akron, Ohio 44313.

Meet Gail!
What a girl! And, to think she
was scheduled for euthanasia because
she had a double ear infection and
a "benign" mammary cyst. We love
this gorgeous WHITE purebred Labrador
and we believe you will too!
Labradors are the #1 most desired
breed in this country; however,
the #1 most euthanized breed too.
Why? Because breeders "over-breed"
to meet the demands of what the

best dogs ever when loved and treated
appropriately! Get educated and

Now through her quarantine period,
she is ready for her "forever home
and family." She will need kind
& consistent training to enforce
what this girl already knows. With
your patience and consistency, she
will learn and become your next
best friend. Containment is "key"
- either on the end of a safely
installed lead / leash or in a fenced
yard - when rescuing a dog until
trust and boundary training is established.
After all, many of these guys have
been living on the land and may
hit the road to pursue the only
home they've known. Even if they
are not wanted anymore.
Do you have 15 years to share with
a selfless dog? Do you understand
the commitment? Do you have what
it takes to be the best pet parent

these questions we can talk about
Gail's future.

We LOVE Junior!
His energy is wonderful
and he is as ornery as they come.
It doesn't hurt that he is so good-looking
either. Weighing in at approximately
28 pounds, Junior is on the small
side. He is from the Heaven Can
Wait house and is now - after too
many months - available for adoption.
Now through his quarantine
period, he is ready for his "forever
home and family." He will need kind
& consistent training because no
one has ever worked with him. With
your patience and consistency, he
will learn and become your next
best friend. Containment is "key"
- either on the end of a safely
installed lead / leash or in a fenced
yard - when rescuing a dog until
trust and boundary training is established.

Gotta love Scooby! We do!!!
Rescued from the
streets, Scooby appeared to be a
"well-cared-for" and kind dog. After
not being claimed from animal control,
Scooby became a resident at the
shelter. This boy is fun and sweet
and wants to go home. Animal control
staff kept him for a very long time
in hopes of getting him adopted
because his temperament is PERFECT!
He appears to get along
with everyone, has wonderful manners,
and wants to please. We love this
boy and you will too! Containment
is "key" with all dogs - especially
a rescued dog - until boundary training
has been established and he feels
secure in his next home. We recommend
a fenced yard or a safe and secure
leash for brief tie-out sessions.
If you are a committed pet
parent and want to be part of the
development of a great dog that

Look
at our Pomeranians!
Marsha
& Marshal want to go home
together ... they love each
other very much!
These dogs are soooooooooooo
precious and were recovered
from a puppy mill where
they had out-lived their
usefulness! And, surprisingly,
these furry guys are very
social. None of them knew
how to walk on a leash,
nor were they housebroken.
Now, after over 3 weeks
in quarantine and receiving
their vetting, all of these
dogs understand potty breaks,
enjoy walking on a leash,
and are ready for their
forever home. Let's give
these guys a chance and
allow them to know the true
love of humanity and a secure
home! A home that will care
for them for the rest of
their days, allow them to
exercise and stretch their
legs - and their minds.
If you are a committed pet
parent and understand the
responsibility of pet ownership,
call to make an appointment
to meet these guys. Presently,
they are not at our adoption
center but are residing
in another location.
Marsha & Marshal are
up-to-date with routine
shots and spayed/neutered.

Meet
Shelby!
Poor, poor Shelby. She
was one of the lucky 65
dogs that were transported
from Georgia to Ohio to
avoid a massive euthanasia.
She arrived, with her litter
mates, ill with the Parvo
virus. Two of her siblings
died during the trip back.
Again, she is one of the
lucky dogs but, sadly, she
is the last pup to get her
"forever home" --- all of
her brothers and sisters
are with their new families
as she still awaits hers.
She is a real "love bug"
and deserves her chance
to feel loved, be secure,
and experience a true bond
with humanity. Now through
her quarantine period, she
is ready for her "forever
home and family." She will
need kind & consistent training
because no one has ever
worked with her. With your

she will learn and become

Gotta love a Border Collie
mix-breed dog - and gotta
love Buddy's innocent face
...
Rescued from

After advertising to locate
his family was not fruitful,

Meet
Dragon!
This young boy deserves
so much more! Again, surrendered
to the shelter for no fault
of his own. Our staff really
love this boy and believe
he is a quick study to become
the best, most well-behaved,
companion ever! He has great
manners for such a young
boy. Now through his quarantine
period, he is ready for
his "forever home and family."
He will need kind & consistent
training because no one
has ever worked with him.
With your patience and consistency,

Meet
Red!
This
little dog will be the most
fun ever! Who doesn't love
an ornery little dog? He
looks exactly like a dwarfed
Chow - weighing it at around
23 pounds and full grown!
He's adorable and smart
and has a strong will.
Now, he picks his
friends in the shelter wisely;
however, once in a home,
he may be less selective.
"Trust" doesn't come automatic
for this little guy - but
he's been through a lot!!!
We rescued him less than
12 hours from being euthanized.
Small dogs bond quickly
and look to us for security.
After all, that's why most
small dogs become lap dogs
... that is where they feel
the safest!
Now through his quarantine
period, he is ready for
his "forever home and family."
He will need kind & consistent
training because no one
has ever worked with him.
With your patience and consistency,
he will learn and become
your next best friend. Containment
is "key" - either on the

This beautiful dog will
be the best pet ever! Who

Meet
Brandy:
Meet Brandy ... She is a
sweet girl and was rescued
from Georgia - along with
over 150 other adoptable
animals that were spared
euthanasia in the 11th hour.
We traveled to Georgia in
an effort to help an existing
Humane Society that was
in peril. Due to economics,
they were closing down and
would be taken over by the
local county animal control
facility; however, upon
takeover, they were required
to lower the census to less
than 150 animals. Sadly,
this meant 140 animals would
be euthanized by the end
of that week. Because Summit
County Animal Control was
stable, and networking with
other rescues in NE Ohio
was fruitful, we were able
to make the trip and return
with 65 - very sickly -
animals. Thus, helping the
facility to lower their
numbers by nearly 50%. As
the animals arrived, other
rescues stood by to claim
the pets that they had committed
to take. All animals were
processed and seen by our
Lead Veterinarian for an
assessment. Almost all required
treatment for one or more
illnesses. Every pet was
emaciated. OOAKPR kept the
majority and immediately
began the quarantine and
vetting process. We are
glad to report that the
animals are now healthy
and pain-free and ready
to begin their life in a
happy and safe home where
they will experience love
and security for the rest
of their days! Brandy is
an adult Bluetick Coonhound
/ Catahoula Leopard mix-breed
dog and is extremely sweet.
We believe she is between
1 & 2 years of age and is
a bit on the smaller side,
weighing in at around 35
pounds. As you can understand,
none of these animals were
ever loved or trained and
are now learning commands.
But they are all smart,
retaining training, eager
to learn, and possess an
intense desire to please.
Containment is "key" until
these dogs are secure and
understand boundaries, which
may take some time. If you
are a committed pet parent
and want to be part of the
development of a great dog
that was living an unfortunate
life but now has the opportunity
to thrive, come to meet
these dogs. They are residing
at the clinic and the adoption
center. Call ahead to see
Brandy. We thank all of
you for your continued support
and for caring --- we care
deeply too.
Brandy
is up-to-date with routine
shots, house trained and
spayed/neutered.

We can't keep them
a secret anymore! They are just
too cute!! These adorable Collie/St.
Bernard pups are looking for a home.
They need a secure home with a lot
of love and attention. They are
male and female and there are several
of them. They need you now more
than ever. This is the age when
they begin to understand structure
and routine. Dogs don't want to
fail and because they depend on
you to teach them, you must be present!
The longest they can be left alone
is for 4 hours at a time -- after
all, they are babies!!! With appropriate
attention and routine they will
grow to become the adult dogs you
want them to be.
Do you have
what it takes to be the best
pet parent ever? If so, we have
the best pups ever!
Are you comfortable
with a large-breed dog? If so,
their next home may be with
you!
Keep in mind, their next home
must be their last! They doesn't
deserve another "life change"
- NOT EVER!
