Meet King…

King was wandering around without a home and was captured by a Good Samaritan. He's a pretty boy who loves to be petted, but is not too happy about being picked up. Who among us is?? King is a lap cat, however. He climbed up on my lap as I was taking his picture. He is okay with other cats being around and he minds his own business. King is probably 4-6 years old and wants his own family. This guy is pretty laid back. King was neutered by One of A Kind and is going through the inoculation series. He is microchipped, healthy, and read to go. King would love to have a home where he gets love and plenty of petting. Might that home be yours?

Meet Frankie …

What a beautiful boy. Finding purpose in ones life is not always a clear journey. Many people have direction at a very early age and for some of us the path is winding. Eventually, and without a predetermined length of time, we all get to define our purpose individually. Imagine being assigned a purpose and having no control of your future. Worse yet, imagine an allocated number of days to perform mandated tasks and when your task is completed you no longer have a purpose. This is the definition of a puppy mill. Moms and Dads are kept in cages, required to perform on demand, and must produce the most desirable size, color, and tempered pups for the purpose of monetary gains for the breeder. If puppies grow too old they are disposed of and if adult dogs are no longer productive in their breeding they too will loose their life. Most of these beautiful pets have never experienced freedom of any kind. Recently, beautiful purebred dogs were rescued from an execution in the back of a barn. You see, they had outlived their usefulness. Ranging in ages, these sweet dogs were now considered poor breeders and were scheduled to be destroyed. We believe these deserving dogs performed and met the demands of mankind and now want them to know the love, security, and compassion that humanity can offer them. Frankie will need kind & consistent training because he is a neglected boy and shows signs of being insecure and immature. With your patience and consistency, he will learn and become your next best friend - and the pet companion you've always wanted. Containment is "key" - either on the end of a safely installed lead / leash or in a fenced yard - when rescuing a dog until trust and boundary training is established. Furthermore, dogs do not fare well when encountering a moving car. Keep in mind ... many dogs cannot ever be trusted off-lead. Do you have up to 15 years to share with a selfless dog? Do you understand the commitment? Can you provide a "forever home?" Do you have what it takes to be the best pet parent ever? If you can answer "yes" to these questions we can talk about a future for Frankie!

Meet Ellen …

Sweet, sweet Ellen is deaf ... tho you'd never know that she is a special needs dog. She is house broken and sweet. She loves to be held and she is adorable to look at. She really hasn't any faults and will be the best lap dog ever! She is looking for a "forever companion" ... are you looking for a "forever friend?" Ellen will need kind & consistent training because she is a neglected little girl and shows signs of being insecure and unsure. With your patience and consistency, she will learn and become your next best friend - and the pet companion you've always wanted. If you can answer "yes" to these questions we can talk about a future for Ellen!

Meet Pippin …

Pippin is a new arrival for One of A Kind and is such a pretty cat. Soft coloring and a cool demeanor describe this boy. He is an observer at this time because he is in new surroundings. Pippin is 4-5 years old, has had all his shots, is neutered, and has been thoroughly vetted by OOAK professionals. He could be a welcome addition to your home.

Meet our baby Chihuahuas …

We are male and female and there are many of us. OOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHH talk about cute!! We need you now more than ever. This is the age when we begin to understand structure and routine.

We won't go to a home where the owner is not present between 8 - 9 hours each day. The longest we can be left alone is for 4 hours at a time. With appropriate time spent together, training, and a routine, we will grow to be the adult dogs you'd want us to be. Without proper structure and kind training, we run the risk of ending up in a shelter when we're older - and, that's a fate we don't want!!!

These puppies are up to date on their vaccinations, spay and neutered, wormed, have received flea-prevention, bordatella and micro-chipped.

Are you committed to the process? Is your lifestyle appropriate? Do you have 15 years? If so, one of us may be your next BEST friend!!!

Meet Sadie The Cat

Sadie is shy and sweet. Her beautiful silver – grey hair makes her stunning. A little on the smaller side, Sadie keeps to herself. She is quick to interact if invited; however, playing in a box or under a chair is entertaining to her too. She has a kitten face that will melt your heart. She is spayed, current on her vaccines, litter trained and has been vetted. She will do well in any home … with or without other animals or children. Come to see her today … she is worth the trip … we promise!

Meet Everett

So sweet, so calm, and so tiny!!! Everett is a tiny – kind of stocky – little boy and he is waiting for you! He was found on the side of the road by Good Samaritans who could not give him a home, and so he was surrendered to One of A Kind Pet Rescue. Everett keeps to himself in the company of the many, many other cats. He observes what is going on and will play but only when someone has the time to play with him. He'll headbutt a friendly hand to get the petting he wants and deserves. He has a tiny white pendant-like white spot on his throat. This little boy is soooooooooo endearing.

Meet Sassy

This story breaks my heart. Sassy is a statistic of a broken home. Once 1 of 3 canine siblings, her owner decided to keep the youngest and the oldest because she could only take 2 with her to her new apartment. This left Sassy orphaned and confused --- very, very confused!!! Why should this VERY sedate and pleasant dog have to endure this at 8 years of age? She is sweet and lovable. She hasn't any faults --- oh, I forgot ... just one ... she is a little on the portly side. But we are working on this and she will be "fit and trim" in no time!! After all, she gets to walk at least once a day with a volunteer and if anyone is going to get 2 walks each day, it will be Sassy!

This dog will do well in any household and she just simply wants to go home!!! Can you imagine being use to a house and a couch and now, at 8 years of age, she is living in a shelter --- unfathomable! I can only imagine how heartbroken she is. NOTE: About Beagles and Hounds ... besides being one of the most fun and entertaining breeds, they have an extremely keen sense of smell. Their noses will take them just about anywhere! Under a fence ... thru a hole ... well, you get the picture! Make sure your Beagle has identification tags on. Tags are even better than a microchip when searching for your lost pet. Microchips are a second assistance when trying to locate your lost pet - especially if they have slipped out of their collar. Now through her quarantine period, she is ready to experience love and security in the safe arms of a committed owner and to meet her "forever home and family." Never to be orphaned again!!! Containment is "key" - either on the end of a safely installed lead / leash or in a fenced yard - when rescuing a dog until trust and boundary training is established. Furthermore, small dogs (or any for that matter) do not fare well when encountering a moving car. Keep in mind ... many dogs cannot ever be trusted off-lead and Beagles are one breed that this often applies to! Do you have up to 15 years to share with a selfless dog? Do you understand the commitment? Can you provide a "forever home?" Do you have what it takes to be the best pet parent ever? If you can answer "yes" to these questions we can talk about a future for Sassy!

Note: Sassy has cherry-eye which will be treated before she is adopted.

Meet Ivy

Most of us appreciate the look of ivy in a beautifully landscaped area and many of us will plant it along a fence in hopes that it will grab the slats and become a trellis of foliage. Left to its own, ivy will thrive, become strong, and claim the fence for life. Overtime, we admire the result and believe that this is right were ivy belongs. But our little Ivy didn’t belong there …

Ivy was found alone and tethered to a fence. Unlike the foliage, it was apparent that this very small dog would never grow strong, nor thrive, in this situation. As she sat next to an empty water dish and beside a small mound of dog food, Ivy trembled in fear and confusion.

Who left her in this vulnerable situation? Had she weathered the violent storm from the night before? Was she once loved? What were they thinking? Working in animal welfare we experience sadness daily yet we still stand in disbelief to witness such a pathetic scene.

Once in our care, a traumatized Ivy ate very little and slept a lot over the next 3 days. Clearly depressed and weak, we gave her all of the time, attention, and space she needed to decompress and trust. Now fully vetted and confident, Ivy is ready to go home and live out her remaining days as a valued and loved family member ... never to be tied out and abandoned again! If you are interested in adopting Ivy please call 330.865.6200.

Meet Janie

Meet Janie. Janie is a lover! She loves people, she loves other cats and dogs, and she loves her wet food! And, she will meeeeoooow at you until she gets it! Janie is a talker and is willing to stick up for what is rightfully hers -- again, wet food! You get the impression that this girl once struggled to find nourishment. Adopted as a younger cat, Janie was returned due to economic reasons … the family had to move and could no longer provide care. She knows what a house and a couch is so she is eager for a new home. She has had all her shots, is healthy, and is declawed. Are you looking for an interactive fun cat for your family? If so, Janie is your girl.

Meet Marley the cat

Look at this disheveled little boy! He likes his orange and white hair just this way … a little long and untamed. Marley is the kind of boy that doesn’t insist on interacting; however, if you approach him he will purr just to be in your presence. He’s not a " fraidy-cat" but will find a corner and keep to himself in the shelter environment. We believe he will come out of his shell a little more once he is in a safe and secure home. He is a young adult and he has a lot of living to do … might he be doing it with one of you?

Meet Molly
...another puppy mill dog

Finding purpose in ones life is not always a clear journey. Many people have direction at a very early age and for some of us the path is winding. Meet Big & Beautiful Anderson!

Anderson was found by a staff member of One of A Kind Pet Rescue. Usually it’s the other way around! Hanging around her home he soon wanted in her house. It didn't matter that she had other cats and dogs and couldn't keep him ... he just wanted safety and security. He wanted in. Without hesitation, he was taken to OOAKPR and surrendered for medical evaluation and future adoption.

Anderson is such a pretty boy: all white, substantial size (almost 14 pounds!), and he is declawed in the front! Someone loved him at some time. We always wonder what happened. Anderson is very social in the adoption center and gets along with the other animals and with people who come to visit. He doesn't really like to be picked up, but be loves to be petted and to rub against people's legs. We hope that Anderson will be adopted quickly into his new " forever home." See Anderson today and make him part of your family.

Meet Video!
A note from Video's foster care provider:

Video is an adorable 1 year old male Irish Wolfhound mix-breed dog. A few months ago he was found by a good Samaritan wandering the streets in Cleveland - all alone.

This poor boy was almost hit by a car and it was obvious that he needed help. The young lady decided to take him home, but because she lived with her grandmother, she was unable to keep him in her house; therefore, Video slept in her car for nearly 3 weeks as she searched for a home. Sadly, this sweet boy ended up going to a few homes that did not work out. One of the homes he spent time with did not believe in crate training so he did some chewing damage when they left the house and left him alone in their basement. Another family decided it would be a good idea to tie him to a tree and leave him out all night in the middle of one of those awful storms we experienced some weeks back. Clearly, the good Samaritan didn't have the luxury of time when "screening" for an appropriate home and family.

He has been through a lot in his short life. He shows signs of neglected and abuse. Video has been let down by people. Not surprisingly, he suffers from some separation anxiety; however, we are managing it.

My / our mission is to find him an appropriate home. He is in foster care with me and my family. He has been with us almost 4 weeks. I have observed him to be a wonderfully affectionate dog that really deserves a chance at a great life.

He is completely housebroken, he seems to understand what "go potty" means. We believe at some point in his life he was shown love and kindness. Unfortunately, that all fell apart and he ended up homeless.

He knows some commands, sit, down, shake, stay and lie down. He is really good with kids although given his size he might be better suited to older kids (7/8 and up). He loves to play so like minded dogs are instant friends. He interacts very well with dogs big & small. Cats don't seem to interest him but squirrels and birds do.

He walks well on a leash but be prepared if he sees a squirrel! We have a fenced in yard which he loves. This dog is not a couch potato until after 9 pm. He loves investigating around the yard and going on long walks. We crate him at night which he is not a fan of but concedes. He will go in the crate with a little encouragement & a treat. I am sure he would rather cuddle up next to you in bed (if you don't mind the snoring).

He is still young and he has a few issues ... he likes to grab the kid's stuffed animals, run off with them and try to chew them; however, he has never tried to chew furniture in my house! He seems to prefer things he can carry.

He also needs to be watched in the kitchen . He is the perfect size to reach the kitchen table ... remember when you have lived on the streets you learn to be resourceful! These are all puppy like issues that he can be changed. Its like having a toddler around! I share this so that you know what you might be getting into and so that you know what work needs to be done. We ultimately want to maximize his opportunity for success in his forever home. He needs a loving owner that will give him the time and attention he deserves. A consistent routine, reassurance and love will do a lot to win his trust, not to mention the return that you will get from your investment ... friendship of a loyal companion for many years to come.

Video sheds, is about 44 lbs and stands 27" at the shoulders.

A telephone conversation can be had with his foster care provider @ 330.289.3690.

Meet Lola!

Lovely Lola! This sweet tabby was found by some nice people who could not give her a home, and so was surrendered to One of A Kind. She is such a fun and loving cat. Likes to roll around to entice petting and other loving! She has a white bib and white feet, just right for dancing! She is super soft. OOAK has fully vetted Lola. She has been vaccinated, de-wormed, micro-chipped and has received flea preventative. She had already been spayed, so she was obviously used to living in a home with people who cared about her. Won't you consider giving her a forever home with your family?

Meet May!

Meet Miss May! This little girl is as soft as can be and is very unaffected by all that going on around her. In fact, she is quite the spectator! She appears completely content as she sits on her chair in the adoption center and observes both people and pets. You get the impression that she is trying to stay out of the way – but be seen. She is not a needy girl but does enjoy human interaction. Doesn't that little black nose just beg to be scratched? Come meet Miss May today. She’s worth the trip … we promise.

Meet Precious!

Meet Precious ... a puppy mill dog ... Finding " purpose" in one’s life is not always a clear journey. Many people have direction at a very early age and for some of us the path is winding. Meet Dawn!

She was found lying in a street, very undernourished, with broken teeth, and sick. Brought into OOAKPR, she was surrendered by a Good Samaritan. After weeks in quarantine, Dawn continued to show signs of chronic intestinal distress. Perplexed by her symptoms, OOAKPR vets decided to perform exploratory surgery. Today, with the help of hypo-allergenic food and a daily med, this full-grown 6 pound cat lives a completely normal life. Dawn needs and deserves your special kindness and caring. Do you have room in your heart for this tiny girl? If you want a cat that will always resemble a kitten … Dawn is your girl!

Dawn is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Pumpkin is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered

Meet Billy

"Billy the Kid," "Billy Goat," BILLY, BILLY, BILLY! He doesn't care how you say it, Billy gets soooo excited when you call his name. Billy is a young terrier mix.

He loves people, is good around other dogs and is joyful. Billy came to us hesitant and fearful, some people took him to be nippy. In fact, he was nearly euthanized at another shelter because he appeared aggressive.

This is common with dogs who have been through a lot. The last thing he wanted was unfamiliar faces poking and pulling at him. Unfortunately we have to intake the animals and start their vaccinations, bordatella, etc., so it can make for a rough first day in a shelter.

We know after a day or two that the animals will calm down and be more trusting of us when they experience the gentle, loving care we give them.

The next day Billy jumped into my lap and is the happiest little terrier ever! He loves bones and toys. He is crate trained and doing fabulous. He needs a home ... will it be with you?

Now through his quarantine period, he is ready to experience love and security in the safe arms of a committed owner and to meet his "forever home and family." Never to be orphaned again!!!

He will need kind & consistent training.

Meet Tiny

Whoever named this boy had a sense of humor! He should be named Tiny Not! This guy is huge and, once placed on the loft of the cat tree, was content to lie there in peace for the longest time. He likes to play, too, and happily batted around every toy presented to him. Tiny is a rescue from Summit County Animal Control. He had already been neutered and now is thoroughly vetted and ready to go to his new home as a showpiece! If you want a big, peaceful, funny feline addition to your home, Tiny is a good bet!

Tiny is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.
Meet Coco

One sure way to get Coco out of her nest is catnip! She loves it and quickly emerges from her cozy bed for treats. Coco was surrendered along with another cat to OOAK. She is about 6 years old, and doesn't like children or loud noises. She is accustomed to being an indoor cat, has been declawed in front, and was already spayed. Coco will play but feels safe in her crate until she gets accustomed to a new environment. She keeps to herself and would be good in a one on one situation.

Coco is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed, micro-chipped and declawed!

Meet Lil'Man

These dogs are beyond precious!!! Three of them came in together but his sisters, Lucy and Missy, have been adopted while Lil Man still waits. Rescued from an impoverished situation, these dogs were scared to death! Because they had never been socialized, they trembled in fear. Now with us and our staff, these small dogs reward us with tail wags and kisses. They now love attention and want to be with us as much as possible!

Like his sisters, Lil Man is going to be a success and we LOOOOVE sucesss stories! We believe them to be about 1 year in age and have a lot of living to do ... will they be doing it with you? The owner said that they are Pomeranian and Terrier and may have something else in them too(???). The truth is ... they're probably a mix of a lot of things! Does it really matter? Whatever they are, we can tell you that they are beyond sweet, fun, and good-looking! And, more than anything, deserving of an amazing home! Note: They have Pomeranian eyes.

They will do fine in any home - with or without children; however, if children are in the home they will need to be EXTREMELY gentle with these dogs as they continue to develop trust and confidence. They are all still considered somewhat timid but we are hopeful this will change once in a home. Now through their quarantine period, they are ready to experience love and security in the safe arms of a committed owner and to meet their "forever home and family." Never to be orphaned again!!!

They will need kind & consistent training. With your patience and consistency, they will learn and become your next best friend - and the pet companion you've always wanted. Containment is "key" - either on the end of a safely installed lead / leash or in a fenced yard - when rescuing a dog until trust and boundary training is established. Furthermore, dogs do not fare well when encountering a moving car - especially small dogs. Keep in mind ... many dogs cannot ever be trusted off-lead.

Do you have up to 15 years to share with a selfless dog? Do you understand the commitment? Can you provide a "forever home?" Do you have what it takes to be the best pet parent ever? If you can answer "yes" to these questions we can talk about a future for Lucy, Missy or Lil Man! Reminder: Make sure your dog has identification tags on and all information is current. Tags are even better than a microchip when searching for your lost pet. Microchips are a second assistance when trying to locate your lost pet - especially if they have slipped out of their collar. Tags can be purchased for "pennies" at the adoption center and will save you "millions" in upset should your pet become lost!

Lil Man is up-to-date with routine shots, micro-chipped and neutered.

Meet Lucy!

Meet Lucy … these dogs are beyond precious!!! The 3 of them came in together so their bios will read the same. (See: Missy & Lil Man too) Rescued from an impoverished situation, these dogs were scared to death! Because they had never been socialized, they trembled in fear.

Lucy is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Meet Chrome!

Chrome is a true success story. He was brought into OOAKPR by a Good Samaritan and was very ill. It took OOAKPR many weeks to get him healthy again – but he now is! He’s ornery and playful, and ready to go to his forever home. Chrome is so named because he is the color of metal! Now sleek, shiny, and beautiful, he enjoys playing, is inquisitive, and takes pleasure in his recreation time with the other cats too. He grooms himself to stay very clean and now weights in at a healthy 7.15 pounds. Now fully vetted for his previous illness, he has had all his shots, is neutered, is on flea preventative, and has been micro-chipped. Chrome will be your precious metal!

Meet Lola!

Meet sweet Lola! This sweet tabby was found by some nice people who could not give her a home; therefore, was surrendered to One of A Kind. She is such a fun and loving cat. Likes to roll around to entice petting and other loving! She has a white bib and white feet, just right for dancing! She is super soft. OOAK has fully vetted Lola. She has been vaccinated, has been de-wormed and has flea preventative. She had already been spayed, so she was obviously used to living in a home with people who cared about her. Won't you consider giving her a forever home with your family?

Lola is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Griswald!

Meet Griswald ... I am a Cocker Spaniel and I need you now more than ever. This is the age when I should be able to let down and relax ... feel loved and secure ... and not be residing is a cold, sterile shelter! Thank goodness, OOAKPR brought me in and fully vetted me. Apparently, I needed a little extra vetting but I am now good to go! Because I am a little older, my energy level is perfect. With appropriate time spent together, minimal training, and a routine, I will grow to be the companion to you you'd want me to be. Without proper structure and kind training, deserving dogs run the risk of ending up in a shelter when they're older - and, that's a fate we don't want!!! These guys require your help to become the best dogs ever. And they are the best dogs ever when loved and treated appropriately! Get educated and make the right choices ... Are you a committed pet parent and do you understand the process? Is your lifestyle appropriate? Do you have up to 15 years? If so, Griswald may be your next BEST friend!!!

Griswald is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Meet Channel!

… and she is as " designer" as her name! Her beautiful black coat and her stunning yellow eyes make for a gorgeous " one of a kind" girl. This petite adult cat was just happy to sit and observe what was going on around her. As we approached her for her picture, she couldn’t have cared less. This easy going cat will be a great companion to someone and will get along well in any home! We see a promising future for Channel … might it be with you?

Channel is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Meet Bagel!

Bagel couldn't be sweeter --- and we LOVE Beagles around here. Check out his sweet face ... Bagel is a little confused ... after all, this was once a loved and well cared for young boy.

He was found wandering and without identification by a Good Samaritan. They looked for his owner - as did we. We ran an ad for 7 days in hopes of reuniting Bagel to his owner - with no luck. He has an impressive - kind of shy - personality and is well behaved. He just wants to go home! Once in a "forever home" we believe he will grow more confidence and turn into a true "ornery, entertaining, and fun" Beagle.

Bagel is a little on the smaller side. He probably weighs around 20 pounds and is full-grown. He will do fine in any home - children or no children. He appears to get along with other dogs too.

Note about Beagles and Hounds: besides being one of the most fun and entertaining breeds, they have an extremely keen sense of smell.

Now through his quarantine period, he is ready to experience love and security in the safe arms of a committed owner and to meet his "forever home and family." Never to be orphaned again!!! He will need kind & consistent training. With your patience and consistency, he will learn and become your next best friend - and the pet companion you've always wanted. After all, this boy is well on his way to being the best dog ever!

If you can answer "yes" to these questions we can talk about a future for Bagel! Bagel is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and neutered.
Meet Fuzzball!

Fuzzball is mostly grey with some white markings. Her fur is soft, though not as fine as some cats. She responds well to petting and sweet-talk.

This sweet girl is 1-2 years old and is a loner – she just prefers it that way! She was rescued from animal control and was already spayed -- so someone once loved and attempted to care for her in her young life. She has been thoroughly vetted now and is " good to go" to her next and " forever home!" Fuzzball will, no doubt, blossom under your loving care. Can you help make the difference in this kitty's life?

Lil' Chico

Meet Lil' Chico ... Well, what can we say??? Look at this charmer ...

We believe this sweet boy to be a Manchester Terrier weighing in at about 5 pounds. Rescued from animal control, this tiny dog was picked up off the streets just in time! After all, these "tea cup" dogs do not fair well up against a moving vehicle. He is a love bug and appears to do well with everyone he meets. Current on his vaccines, neuter, and vetting, Lil Chico is ready for his "forever home!"

Do you have up to 15 years to spend with a selfless dog? Are you a committed per parent? Is your lifestyle appropriate? Do you promise to keep Lil Chico contained and secure? If you can answer "yes" to these questions, we can talk about Lil Chico's future.

Lil' Chico is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Betty!

Meet Betty ... a puppy mill dog ... Finding purpose in one's life is not always a clear journey. Recently, fourteen beautiful purebred dogs were rescued from an execution in the back of a barn. You see, they had outlived their usefulness. Ranging in ages from 4 months to 4 years, these sweet dogs were now considered poor breeders and were scheduled to be destroyed. We believe these deserving dogs performed and met the demands of mankind and now want them to know the love, security, and compassion that humanity can offer them. He will need kind & consistent training because he is a neglected boy and shows signs of being insecure. With your patience and consistency, he will learn and become your next best friend - and the pet companion you've always wanted. Containment is "key" - either on the end of a safely installed lead / leash or in a fenced yard - when rescuing a dog until trust and boundary training is established. Skittles!

Who knows what dark places Skittles has been? She was once loved. We know that because she was spayed when she came to the shelter.

But then something really bad must have happened ... when she was found, her tail had been broken in several places, she was flea infested, and she was very thin. It's hard to believe that when you see her now because she is so healthy once again. Her tail has been amputated; she has received all her inoculations, and thanks to good care she has gained the weight she needed on her bones.

Skittles is ready now to be part of a loving family once again. She gets along with the other cats in the shelter, but will defend her position on the top shelf of the cat gym! She is sweet and loving and so much deserves happiness at last. Please make her a part of your family. She would like that!

Casanova!

Sweet, sweet Casanova … and just the right size! Weighing in at about 7 pounds, this full-grown Min-Pin and Chihuahua mix breed boy surely won’t be taking up much room! He is a true lover and is entertaining to watch. It is not uncommon for little dogs to have big personalities and this little guy is true to the theory.

He is confident and he is fun. He will play and then come over to you to be held. He’s a perfect mix of different personalities and will acclimate quickly into a loving home. This dog should have been named " Smooch" because he loves to do just that … which is somewhat uncommon for tiny dogs.

He is housebroken and crate trained. Because he is so well-adjusted, we believe this boy is use to a house and a couch and was once a very loved dog.

Let’s get him back into a home … might that home be yours?

Pepe!

Top Drawer! Or top shelf it would seem. Pepe is always to be found on the top shelf of the cat gym when he and his buddies are out in the main room for exercise. There, he is free to flirt with friends who come in, play with the other cats who may be inclined, and in general "rule the roost!" He loves attention and frequently will "reach out" for it if anyone comes close to his roost and fails to notice his presence. He chirps and talks. And, I'm sure you’ve noticed that he is very photogenic and he loves the camera. Pepe is about 2 years old. He has been thoroughly vetted, is neutered, and micro-chipped.

Butterscotch!

This senior cat already had a home. Unfortunately a one year old puppy changed his whole world. Butterscotch is a wonderful 12 year old cat who has at least another 8-10 years of his life. This sweet boy was upset by the new change and didn't want to be chased or used as a toy for some other furry creatures pleasure. We want him to live out his remaining years in a protective and caring home. He is very affectionate and will take great pleasure in sun bathing thru a window and watching you go about your day. Is that so wrong?! Come adopt today!!

Meet Angelina! another puppy mill dog, she's a 6 pound SHY Maltese!

Meet Moses the Shih Tzu! Moses appears to have only 1 eye in this picture: however, his hair is covering his other eye. He has 2 healthy eyes!

Meet Tori

What Tori wants most is attention! He gets excited when he knows that a friend is going to pet him and play with him. He's very soft and affectionate. He would be so grateful to have a forever home. We often never know how cats wind up where they are found, but Tori was found in a shed. Hungry and homeless. But, for now, he's safe and warm . He has had the medical care to make him a healthy cat, and he is ready to go into the loving arms of his next family. Can you give him a home?

Tori is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained, spayed/neutered and DECLAWED!

Meet Rebakah (pronounced Rebecca)

Look at our cats!
Reba and Ralphie

This male and female pair are so striking you have to stare. Reba is approx. 6mo.-1 yr. and Ralphie is 4-5 mo. old. they were at the pound together. Very scared and helpless looking. Their personally has since come out. They are like peanut butter and jelly, pancakes and syrup, baseball and peanuts, anyways, you get the picture. We can't dare separate these two. They love each other. They are two of the sweetest cats ever. Come see this adorable pair and fall in love yourselves.

Reba & Ralphie are up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Max!

I'm Max. You should get to know me as I am one neat guy. I'm a CC cat -- cool and casual. I like to explore . . . check on everything in my surroundings. See the picture of me in the sink? I wasn't there for a bath. (I'm actually a very clean guy.) I just wanted to see if any of the wet food cans were open. You probably have guessed by now that I'm an active fellow. I like other cats and they like me; you will too!

Max is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Charlie is up-to-date with routine shots and neutered.

Meet Julep

This girl has the most interesting markings. She’s a beautiful white cat with calico-looking spots. Julep is interactive, has fun energy, and is ready to play. She’s young and amusing and has a lot of living to do. Her siblings, Jasmine and Julius, are looking for homes to call their own too.

Julep is up-to-date with routine shots and is spayed.

Meet Trixie
... Humanity could learn a lesson from watching her ...

Rescued from animal control, with an impending birth, sweet Trixie had 12 puppies in just a few days after her arrival. Not only did she let us help her during the birthing process, but she showed how amazingly compassionate she was to her babies. Separating them by color, she would nurse them in stages. As they grew, she remained loving and tolerant of all the activity around her. When we finally separated her from the babies, she was very sad.

This beautiful girl deserves to know what it is like to be loved and protected - like she taught us with her own babies! Now through her quarantine period, she is ready to experience love and security in the safe arms of a committed owner and to meet her "forever home and family." Never to be orphaned again! Never to give birth again! Now, it's her turn to be the center of one's attention!!!

She will need kind understanding and training because she has not been cared for properly. With your patience and consistency, she will learn and become your next best friend - and the pet companion you've always wanted.

Trixie is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained, micro-chipped and spayed/neutered.

Meet Princess
... what a very sweet girl ...

This "canine senior citizen" lived with a senior citizen that, sadly, passed away. This left Princess orphaned. It was bad enough to loose the love and companion of her life but to then end up in a shelter in her "golden days" is unfathomable. This sweet girl hasn't any bad habits and desires a warm bed and a loving owner to allow her to rest her head for the remaining time she has on this earth. Upon assessment, Princess appears healthy and hasn't any known medical issues. If you are a kind and compassionate pet parent looking for a sweet and gentle "senior" to spend time with, then Princess will be your girl!

Princess is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Kristy the Cat!

Could she be any more stunning? We don’t think so! And, she is sweet & social too! This is one beautiful little lady! Kristy has markings unlike any we've ever seen. This sweet girl is looking for a lap to cuddle up in. Might it be yours? Now thru her quarantine period and having received all of her vetting, Kristy is " good to go" into her new home and spend the rest of her days with her " forever family."

Kristy is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.
Meet our "Shrinking Violet"

A shy cat can be the most rewarding pet. Each step in your relationship brings new fulfillment as you slowly gain its trust. When you form a bond it is deep and special. One of a Kind Pets has several shy souls including Violet - a beautiful grey cat, longing for her forever home.

We rescued the very pregnant Violet at the pound. She gave birth to 4 kittens in a foster’s bathroom and was a great mom. Violet nursed, bathed and watched over her kittens as they grew strong and playful. When they reached 8 weeks old, she relaxed and slowly approached the foster for affection. Shy cats are like that. They need some time to adjust and to trust.

Although shy, Violet is not unsociable. She never hisses. She does not claw or bite. She loves other pets and can often be found curled up and napping with one of her furry friends. Violet is just wary of strangers. She sometimes hides or huddles in a corner when approached. As a result, this sweet, loving cat is often overlooked or ignored by adopting families.

It’s been two long years since Violet’s kittens found their homes. Violet still waits behind. Isn’t two years long enough to wait?

Meet Lance (black, white, tan) pictured with his sister Leah!

These 2 are siblings and they love each other! These Jack – Russell and Yorkie mix-breed dogs are 5 months old and beyond cute – and ornery! They DO NOT have to go home together – in fact Leah just went to her " forever home." I witnesses Leah licking around Lance's mouth after breakfast the other day. It was beyond cute. Leave it to the female to keep the male clean and tidy for a potential adoption!

Containment is "key" with all dogs until boundary training has been performed, trust is established, and they feel secure in their next home. We recommend a fenced yard or a safe and secure leash for brief tie-out sessions. As you are aware, these small-breed dogs do not fare well when encountering a moving vehicle. Proactive safe guards are crucial to keeping your pet safe and healthy.

If you are a committed pet parent and want to be part of the development of a great dog that now has the opportunity to thrive, come to meet these 2 precious pups. Do you have up to 15 years to commit? Can you provide a "forever home?" Do you understand what it takes to be a responsible pet owner? If so, one - or both of these pups may be your next best friend! Lance & Leah are up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered. We thank all of you for your continued support and for caring --- we care deeply too.

Lance is up-to-date with routine shots and is neutered.

Meet Contessa!

Don't let her camera shyness demeanor fool you! Yes, she can be shy but she likes people too. A stunning beauty, this long-haired calico is quite the attraction. Because of the census in animal control, Contessa was scheduled for a harsh fate. She was rescued from the pound prior to euthanasia. Now, at approximately 3 years old, Contessa’s life will begin and she has a lot of living to do! Might it be with you?

Contessa is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed.

Meet Kayle!

A casualty of our economics, and surrendered by her owner, this sweet little dog deserves more!!! This girl is a "LOVE" and enjoys the safety and security of your arms. Confused by her surroundings and the loud shelter, Kayle wants to go home - never to be orphaned again!

Kayle is in the 25% of purebred dogs that end up in shelters. Because of her size and her designer breed, we believe Kayle will be in demand. That said, we are not interested in placing Kayle with an adopter unless it is the most appropriate home for her and the owner is a committed pet parent!

If you are a committed pet parent and want to be part of the development of a great dog that now has the opportunity to thrive, come to meet Kayle. Do you have up to 15 years to commit? Can you provide a "forever home?" Do you understand what it takes to be a responsible pet owner? If so, Kayle may be your next best friend! Kayle is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed. We thank all of you for your continued support and for caring --- we care deeply too.

Meet Mona!

There is nothing " tense" about this girl. Laid back and just content to be in your presence, Mona is the perfect girl for any cat lover! This laid back young lady enjoys being a lap cat but will do fine if required to be independent. Rescued from the pound prior to euthanasia, Mona is ready for a home of her own and the love and kindness of a new owner. She has 1 stipulation … she wants her new owner to be committed to protecting her for the rest of her life!

Mona is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed.

Meet Chubs!

With a name like Chubbs, you'd think this guy might be on the chunky side ... well, the opposite is true ... he's skinny!!! Someone thought this was a funny name for this little guy so keep in mind ... you can change his name! What a good boy this little dog is! We love him and you will too. He enjoys being held and cuddled and yet he is as ornery as any Jack Russell should be. This full-grown guy (approximately 17 pounds) is ready to go home and experience the love and security of a committed family. Now through his quarantine period, he is ready for his "forever home and family." He will need kind & consistent training because his history is unknown. With your patience and consistency, he will learn and become your next best friend. Containment is "key" - either on the end of a safely installed lead / leash or in a fenced yard - when rescuing a dog until trust and boundary training is established. After all, many of these guys have been living on the land and may hit the road to pursue the only home they've known - even if they are not wanted anymore. Furthermore, these small dogs do not fare well when encountering a moving car. Do you have 15 years to share with a selfless dog? Do you understand the commitment? Can you provide a "forever home?" Do you have what it takes to be the best pet parent ever? If you can answer "yes" to these questions we can talk about Chubb's future.

Chubbs is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Meet Annabelle!

My name is Annabelle. Ans though that's kind of an old-fashioned name, I’m not an old fashioned girl!  You could call me a traditional cat that’s OK with me!  I let out a low, throaty purr when you pet me – which by the way, I like petting very much!  Doesn’t everybody?  I have a squeaky meow which I use to express my satisfaction with being stroked. My favorite place is next to my people.  My photographer had a hard time getting my pictures because I followed him around very closely.  I like other cats too so a " multiple cat" home works for me!

I love to play -- especially when I get to chase the laser dot. Would you like to be my play pal?

Annabelle is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed.

Meet Boo!

Boo is my name -- but I'm not scary or at all difficult. I like people and other cats and just about everything! I'm a quiet girl and I can entertain myself when you're not available. My white coat is nice and thick, with interesting black markings. My tail is all black with a tiny white spot at the very tip. Oh … and have you noticed my YELLOW eyes? They are BEEEUTIFUL I’m told!

I bet I would fit right into your home. What’s your thought on this plan?

Boo is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and neutered.

Meet Homer!

Meet Homer. This beautiful purebred beagle doesn't deserve this! He has found himself residing in a shelter at approximately 6 years of age. Dog years pass so quickly. It is sad to think that 1/3 to 1/2 of his life may be over and he hasn't the security of a loving and secure home of his own.

For those of us who enjoy the beagle breed (and I do!), he is a sweet, sweet boy! He loves to cuddle and yet he still enjoys some excitement. He loves all people he comes into contact with!!! We don't believe he has any bad habits and we think that he will acclimate quickly into a kind and caring home.

We are unsure as to whether he's been kept outside or not, so house training MAY need to be reestablished. Now through his puppy & adolescent stage, Homer is looking to have an adult relationship with a new owner. Could that be you? Do you have what it will take to give Homer the home he may have never known? Do you know what it takes to be a responsible pet owner? Are you committed to the process? Will rescuing an animal bring you personal fulfillment? If you've answered yes to all of the above ... then come on down to meet Homer!

Homer is up-to-date with routine shots and neutered.

Meet Harriett!

Harriett was rescued by a good Samaritan but was in very poor condition. The kind person assumed responsibility for Harriett and worked diligently to get her well. After Harriett's condition improved, OOAKPR was contacted and asked to assume responsibility for her care and to pursue an appropriate home.

Though, she had improved health, Harriett still required the standard vetting administered to all rescued animals and was spayed. Today this ADORABLE girl is happy and healthy and awaiting her "for real" forever home. She is housetrained, well mannered, healthy, and a real pleaser!

Are you a committed pet parent? Can you commit to up to 15 years? Is your lifestyle appropriate for such a selfless creature? If you can answer "yes" to these questions, then Harriett may be your girl! Come to see her ... you won't be leaving without her!

Harriett is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Haylee!

Some folks think I look like a Maine Coon Cat. I think I look more like a miniature lioness. I'm kind of a laid back girl. I just like to hang out . . . stretch out on the floor . . . and, sometimes, play with other cats. When my cage mate Heidi is out, I like to run and jump and play chase. So, maybe the two of us will be going home together??? You never know … a girls gotta have dreams!

P.S. I think I will be a super companion and If you ever find out what's in that bag, let me know.

Haylee is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Cookie!

I'm Cookie . . . . and I'm scared. I really do want to be friendly. When you come to the door of my condo, I'll sniff your hand and let you scratch me with your finger. But when you open the door, I often retreat to my balcony. I’m trying to get some confidence so when folks here go real slow, I do let them touch me a little bit. So by all standards, I'm making progress. I have a cute "smooshed" face and nice, thick long hair. I need to be the only cat of a patient owner. If you can give me some time to adjust, I will be a great companion. Trust me … it’s my dream!

Meet Madea!

This sweet, good-looking, and immaculate little girl found herself pregnant and lying in an animal control facility awaiting her impending birth. Fearful and showing signs of fear-aggression, she was rescued by OOAKPR and immediately taken to a foster home where she could rest comfortably and decompress. Within a few days, she gave birth to beautiful puppies and became a mother.

Now, with her puppies weaned (nearly 2 months ago), it's her turn to know the safety and security of a loving home and an understanding family. She picks her "canine" friends wisely and does not like all dogs.

Shiba Inu dogs have a high-prey personality, so cats will not be an option. She needs an owner that will introduce her to new people and other canines slowly and socialize her as much as possible. Initially, one year old Madea had shown some signs of being fearful of men. This behavior continues to improve. We don't know what she previously experienced, but we do know her future will be better than her past!

Containment - either in a fenced yard or on the end of a safe leash - is a must with the Siba-Inu breed. And, after all, many rescued pets have lived on the land and do not realize that this next stop is their last and there is no need to hit the road in search of food, shelter, or the home that didn’t want them anymore.

All of our rescued animals are current on their vaccines, have been spayed/neutered, been dewormed 2-3 times, tested and treated for any illnesses, and are micro-chipped.

Are you a committed pet parent? Do you have what it takes to nurture a pet that has only known an unfortunate existence? Do you have up to 15 years? If you have what it takes to be responsible for a pet, we may have the perfect companion for you. Come to see the pets awaiting their "forever home." They're worth it - we promise!
Meet Lily!

My name is Lilly. I'm just a young girl but I've already seen "a lot" of life. I was discovered living in a car with my three kittens. I was really too young to be a mom; but, with some help, all my babies survived. It might be best if I'm your only cat. However, I'm rapidly gaining social skills; so, who knows? I think I have lots of potential. I like to wander -- but if you want to pet me -- that's fine too. My caregivers think I'm a very pretty girl.

Lily is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Junior!
I love this guy! Junior’s energy is wonderful and he is as ornery as they come. It doesn't hurt that he is so good-looking either.

Weighing in at approximately 28 - 30 pounds, Junior is on the small side. He is a casualty from the Heaven Can Wait house and is now - after too many months - available for adoption. Now through his quarantine period, he is ready for his "forever home and family." He will need kind & consistent training because no one has ever worked with him. With your patience and consistency, he will learn and become your next best friend. Containment is "key" - either on the end of a safely installed lead / leash or in a fenced yard - when rescuing a dog until trust and boundary training is established. After all, many of these guys have been living on the land and may hit the road to pursue the only home they've known. Even if they are not wanted anymore. Do you have 15 years to share with a selfless dog? Do you understand the commitment? Do you have what it takes to be the best pet parent ever? If you can answer "yes" to these questions we can talk about Junior's future.

Junior is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

My name is Miranda...

which means wonderful and admirable. In my case, it also means purr machine. I am a very affectionate cat. When you open my door, I'm all over you with hugs, kisses and a musical purr. I love everybody -- other cats included. My personal photographer took lots of pictures but thinks I'm prettier than any of them. I am a very clean cat and have fur as soft as down. If you come to see me, you won't be able to go home without me.

Miranda is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Sasha!

Poor Sasha ... such a "love" yet surrendered to animal control - for no fault of her own. It is hard to believe that this tiny girl has had to endure life in a cold shelter and nearly face euthanasia. Now thru her vetting and quarantine period, Sasha is ready to go home. She is a true love bug, an though she gets excited, her favorite place will be with you. And your lap will, no-doubt, offer her great security. We love this little girl and you will too! She appears to love humans of all kinds and other dogs too. Check out her hair --- she is silver in color! Are you a committed pet parent? Do you have up to 15 years to share with a selfless animal? If you have what it takes, then Sasha may be going home with you. Make an appointment to come down to meet her. She's worth the trip. Note: She is not residing at the adoption center so an appointment is mandatory.

Sasha is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Our Cat Hope!

Hope is my name. I'm hoping to find an owner who knows black is beautiful. Actually dogs have owners and cats have staff -- but we can sort all that out after you take me home. I'm kind of a curious cat. I like to poke around, here and there, but I usually interrupt my meandering to check back in for a few strokes. And, I like to talk while you pet me.

Hope is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Marshall!

Marshall was recovered from a puppy mill where he and the other dogs had out-lived their usefulness! And, surprisingly, these furry guys are very social. None of them knew how to walk on a leash, nor were they housebroken. Now, after over 3 weeks in quarantine and receiving their vetting, all of these dogs understand potty breaks, enjoy walking on a leash, and are ready for their forever home. Let's give these guys a chance and allow them to know the true love of humanity and a secure home! A home that will care for them for the rest of their days, allow them to exercise and stretch their legs - and their minds. If you are a committed pet parent and understand the responsibility of pet ownership, call to make an appointment to meet these guys. Presently, they are not at our adoption center but are residing in another location.

Marshal is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Meet Destiny!

Hi, my name is Destiny. I'm looking for someone who is looking for me! If you come to the Adoption Center to meet me, I can be a little shy at first. But, once I get to know you, then I'll be your buddy. I'm perfectly content to nap and amuse myself while you're at work; and when you're home, I would love to hear how your day was and spend some time with you. We can watch television or curl up and read a good book. I'm excellent company, but not high maintenance! Please come and meet at One of a Kind Pets!

Meet Panther!

Hi my name is Panther and I am one cool customer. I was rescued from an animal control facility. I consider it an important duty to monitor the activities of the house, although I won't participate very often. I like having my own space. You people are fun to watch, but I'm ok with that happening from a distance right now. Once we get to know each other, we can spend some quality time together, I enjoy a little rub behind the ears every once in a while. Head scratching too, when I think the time is right. If you are looking for a "classic cat" who decides when and how often we'll interact, then I'm the man for the job. Please come and see me at One of a Kind Pets.

Meet Lonestar!

You've heard the 3rd time is the charm ... well, 3 was the charm when it came to Lonestar. You see ... Lonestar was brought into the shelter 3 different times by 3 different people. Each time, he'd been found wandering the streets in a highly congested business district. Apparently, when we told the good samaritan's that we hadn't any space for him they returned him to the streets. We knew that we were meant to save this boy upon the 3rd request! Based on his size, he wouldn't fair well if he had encountered a moving car. He is a good boy and shows signs of being a "once cared for" house pet. He wants to please and travels well in a car. We believe he likes children (or may had been around children at one time) because he lights up when they come into the shelter. That said, he is showing minimal signs of fear because of all that he has endured as of late. He is coming out of this rapidly due to the socialization we are exposing him to - BUT HE NEEDS YOU -- NOW!!! Now through his quarantine period, he is ready for his "forever home and family." He will need kind & consistent training because he will need to know what you expect of him and it doesn't come automatically. If you can answer "yes" to these questions we can talk about Lonestar's future.

Lonestar is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Scruffy!

Now:
Before:

True To Our Mission … With a mission of rescuing animals from imminent danger of euthanasia one might think that our job is predictable and routine. But is it? When unexpected disease is uncovered, our responsibility is extended and we must now do all that we can to make an orphaned pet healthy & whole. What might that entail? Well, let us introduce you to Scruffy …

This tiny girl is one of the lucky dogs rescued from Georgia. With no hair, a ruptured eye, a persistent cough, signs of emaciation, flea infestation, heartworm positive, and extreme weakness, we learned that her health was not 100%, but just how much worse could it get?

In an effort to upgrade her physical condition and prepare her for necessary medical treatment she began antibiotic therapy and her new diet consisted of high-quality nutrition. Within a few weeks, Scruffy was gaining weight and showing signs of improvement. Upon a check-up, Dr. Geldhof diagnosed a significant heart murmur that did not exist just weeks before. Additional testing confirmed Dr. Geldhof’s suspicion. The heartworm disease was rapidly advancing. Now what?

After consulting with Dr. Agnieszka Kent, a veterinary cardiologist at Ohio State Veterinary Hospital, the decision was made to perform a risky surgery which required access to Scruffy’s tiny walnut size heart through her jugular vein. Utilizing a hook technique, fifteen worms were removed from the heart muscle that measured 24 inches in length. Cabled in and around the valves of the heart, Scruffy’s tiny heart was being strangled. Though the goal was to remove all of the heartworms, nearly half of them were located in the pulmonary arteries and were not accessible. If Scruffy survived the recuperation period she would still have to endure heartworm treatment at a later date.

Within a few weeks, and miraculously, Scruffy’s improved health meant we were ready to begin heartworm treatment. Returning to Ohio State, treatment was administered. We were told that the second week after treatment was the most critical period of time for complications - and it proved to be true. Despite the perfect measures taken, Scruffy became critically ill in her second week and was listed in guarded condition. Over the next few days we all held our breath as we received routine updates from Dr. Kent. Then we got the call … " Scruffy is stable and can return to Akron!"

Her best life is ahead of her now and to know the love and security of a home is our wish for her. Our responsibility is not over when pets are rescued, nor is it predictable or routine, but concludes when they are healthy and adopted into their " forever home."

We express our heartfelt gratitude to foster mom, Sherrie Cutlip, for her dedication and compassion. If you are interested in adopting Scruffy please contact the adoption center. An appointment will be necessary. In support of necessary medical interventions, donations can be made to Clancy’s Critical Care Fund.

Meet Brianna!

Check out Brianna’s yellow eyes! This sweet adult cat is doing time here at the adoption center and longs for a content feeling in a " forever home." Brianna is interactive; however, calms down nicely. Having a family to greet when they came home from their busy would be a dream come true for her. She’d prefer being an only cat because she has experienced enough confusion for a lifetime while residing at the shelter. Please bring Brianna’s shelter life to an end and let her experience the love of a family and home.

Brianna is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Our Tiny Star!

People often wish that their newly adopted kitten would stay small and cuddly forever but we need to be careful of what we wish for. When little Star came in with her brothers and sisters to be spayed and neutered, Dr. Meg Geldhof was concerned.

Already at 12 weeks old, Star still had all of her baby teeth. She was less than a third of the size of her siblings and far less active. How could this tiny kitten be from the same litter?

Dr. Meg had never seen anything like this before. Extensive research and a simple blood test led her to a diagnosis. Our tiny Star suffered from hypothyroidism, commonly known as dwarfism. This condition is extremely rare in kittens and usually fatal. But this was a lucky Star.

Dr. Meg caught this condition early and immediately began a daily thyroid supplement. Star responded slowly, but she gradually showed signs of development. A year later, Star has grown to become a five and a half pound adult and is expected to live a full and normal life span. She is playful, sweet and loves to play with kids, adults, other cats and even dogs. Star also loves to purr.

Star’s mother and siblings found their forever homes many months ago. Star still waits for hers. All she needs is love, commitment - and the help of her daily thyroid supplement (approximate cost of $15.00 per month).

Meet Red!

This little dog will be the most fun ever! Who doesn't love an ornery little dog? He looks exactly like a dwarfed Chow - weighing it at around 23 pounds and full grown! He's adorable and smart and has a strong will.

Now, he picks his friends in the shelter wisely; however, once in a home, he may be less selective. "Trust" doesn't come automatic for this little guy - but he's been through a lot!!! We rescued him less than 12 hours from being euthanized. Small dogs bond quickly and look to us for security. After all, that's why most small dogs become lap dogs ... that is where they feel the safest!

If you can answer "yes" to these questions we can talk about Red's future.

Red is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Meet Dice!

Hi, I'm Dice. Can we make a deal? Here's how I see it---you have a home, and I need a home! Sounds like a match to me. Don't get me wrong, the nice people here at One of a Kind Pet Rescue are great, but I really hope to have a place of my own soon. I like to play with toys, but I can also enjoy an afternoon of sun-bathing. Is there room in your house for me? I don't need a lot of space, but I can fill up a heart awfully fast. Why not come and meet me?

Dicey is up-to-date with routine shots, de-clawed, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Mandy!

Hello, I'm Mandy! I'm a young cat who enjoys good conversation. When you're petting me, chances are good that I'll just " purr away" like a motor boat. Once we’re living together, I'll probably answer your questions with a chirp because that’s my preferred language. I enjoy chasing toy mice and just about any kind of toy! The truth is I enjoy being the center of attention. I’ll vie for your attention and your companies. It doesn’t matter … I’ll perform for all of you. Take a good look at my picture … I am a petite girl looking for committed " pet parents." Might that be you? Come to meet me!

Mandy is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Meet Romeo and Juliet!

Romeo & Juliet (gray Tabby cats) were adopted two years ago by a couple who fell in love and just had to have these two kittens. Recently, their daughter brought home a stray cat. Within short time, the stray became pregnant and had multiple kittens. The family decided to keep the stray, as well as one of her kittens. Now, with four cats in the home (mom, kitten, Romeo, & Juliet), the family has decided that Romeo & Juliet must go! They have decided there are just too many animals now. Unfortunately, they made a decision to give up their feline family members of over 2 years and these precious cats are now residing in a shelter. In this case, seniority didn’t count. This situation could have been avoided had the stray been spayed. This is why all rescued animals are spayed or neutered in an effort to end the cycle of unwanted births and throw-away animals. Did Romeo & Juliet deserve this? We think not and our hope is that they will find their "forever home" together once again. Special Adoption Fee: Both cats can be adopted for $60.00 TOGETHER!

ROMEO & JULIET are up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.
Meet Cora!

My name is Cora. I am a Tabby cat (with amazing yellow eyes) and, if you love petite female felines, I’m your girl! I’d enjoy assisting you with whatever it is you have planned for the day. I'll be happy to bat the pen if you're writing something, or even help you at the computer. In fact, I love the keyboard! And if you want to curl up and read a book, I excel at curling up with people. Like all good helpers, I am quiet -- unless you promote " play." Pull out a feather toy and then it is " game on!" Won't you please drop by and meet me at One of a Kind Pets? There are a lot of us to choose from so look hard for me when you enter … I may be taking a nap.

Cora is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.
Meet Candy!

Hi, my name is Candy and I want to spend some time with you. If you are reading the newspaper, I'll help you turn the page. If you are making the bed, I'll be right there between the sheets, helping you smooth everything out. I am very vocal and like to communicate with you. I am about a year old and just the cutest little cat! Come and meet me and we can talk things over. See you soon!

Candy is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Madea!

It's Madea's turn ... This sweet little girl found herself pregnant and lying in an animal control facility awaiting her impending birth. Fearful and showing signs of fear-aggression, she was rescued by OOAKPR and immediately taken to a foster home where she could rest comfortably and decompress. Within a few days, she gave birth to beautiful puppies and became a mother. Now, with her puppies weaned, it's her turn to know the safety and security of a loving home and understanding family. She picks her "canine" friends wisely and does not like all dogs. Shiba Inu dogs have a high-prey personality, so cats will not be an option. She needs an owner that will introduce her to new people slowly and socialize her - with care & caution - as much as possible. On occasion, one year old Madea has shown some signs of being fearful of men. We don't know what she previously experienced, but we do know her future will be better than her past! Containment - either in a fenced yard or on the end of a safe leash - is a must. After all, many rescued pets have lived on the land and do not realize that this next stop is their last and there is no need to hit the road in search of food or shelter. All of our rescued animals are current on their vaccines, have been spayed/neutered, been de-wormed 2-3 times, tested and treated for any illnesses, and are micro-chipped.

Madea is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.

Meet Jolie!... and her next home MUST be her last!

Surrendered to the shelter twice - thr u no fault of hers -this little gal is confused. In both situations, the families could not keep her due to economic reasons. She is a pleasant girl and gets along with everyone at the shelter - dogs & cats. This poor girl is use to a house and a couch - not a noisy and hectic shelter - and she wants to go home! Containment is "key" with all rescued dogs until they are secure and understand boundaries - which may take some time. Do you understand the responsibility when owning a pet? Do you have up to 15 years? If you are a committed pet parent and want to be part of the development of a great dog that has been living an unfortunate life but now has the opportunity to thrive, come to meet Jolie. We thank all of you for your continued support and for caring --- we care deeply too.

Meet Tink!

Hi, I'm Tink! I'm here, at One of a Kind Pet Rescue, waiting for my forever home. And I hope that home is a busy, active, fun-filled, engaging, full-speed-ahead, kind of place. I love to play and interact - and then play some more! I can also be pretty talkative. I like other cats, but I don't know very many dogs, so I'm a little unsure of them. My favorite thing is people - I enjoy them the most!! Do you have room for me in your house? Are you looking for entertainment? If so, I am a great act!!! Let's get together -- I will patiently await your visit.

Tink is up-to-date with routine shots and spayed/neutered.
Meet Inky!

Hi, I'm Inky. And, I'm a large adult male cat. I'm a big believer in the saying, "better safe than sorry". I like to check things out before I really get involved. I like people, really, I do. But, it may take me a while to warm up. A lot of people come to One of a Kind Pets and don't even notice me because I prefer to stay in the background and watch the action. But, between you and me, I really want to go home. Once I'm comfortable, my favorite place will be on my own person's lap enjoying a nice head scratch! Come to meet me - I'm worth it - honest!

Inky is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Marie!

Hello, my name is Marie. And whatever it is that you are doing, I can help! I may be a quiet cat, but that doesn't mean that I'm not on the job. One of my favorite chores is laundry....I love making sure all the clothes are nice and warm when they come out of the dryer! I am also very good at making sure the feather duster is doing its job -- I promise to chase it until we're both satisfied that all the dust is gone. I have a curious nature and can't wait until I can investigate your house. Please come and meet at the One of a Kind Pets adoption center. I am current on my vaccines, spayed, and micro-chipped.
Meet Kia!

Hi my name is Kia and I am about 3 years old. If you observe me at the Adoption Center, I'm kind of quiet. But that's because there's an awful lot of activity! If you spend some time one-on-one with me, you'll discover that I am quite a friendly and outgoing cat. I love to chase a feather  -  or any toy, and I really enjoy being petted. I just need to be comfortable before I show my sweet side. Once we're friends, I'll be by your side constantly and will be checking out what you're doing. Please come out to meet me? I'm really cute! I'll be here at One of a Kind Pets, waiting.

Kia is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Dolly!

Dolly is a Doll! She is a Shitzu between 3 - 4 years of age and was rescued from animal control. She has spent time in a foster home and did very well. She is good with other dogs and has lived with cats; however, she doesn't like to share her food or her bed with another dog (or cat)  -  she considers those two things to be her personal possessions. She loves adults and children and really doesn't exhibit any bad habits. This little girl deserves the love and security of a "forever  home. Might that home be yours? Do you have up to 15 years to commit to an animal that needs you? If so, Dolly may be your next constant companion!

Meet Natasha!

Hello, I'm Natasha. I'm looking for a home to call my own; do you want to share yours with me? I may be a little quiet at first, but I sure do like people. I think it's great to spend time together playing with a feather, or watching some television. But, I'm not one of those silly cats that curiosity is going to get the best of, no sir, not me. And when you have company over, I'll be sure to keep an eye on them from a distance. What I'm really looking for is a quiet home where you and I can get know each other and become friends. I'll be at One of a Kind Pet Rescue, waiting.

Meet Janine!

Hi, I'm Janine. I can't wait to go home with you and I will be the biggest help to you. Help you do what? Well, whatever needs doing! I'd love to help you wash the windows, I'm great at checking for streaks. I'm also very talented when it comes to pushing down the keys on the computer keyboard- I'll be right along side of you! Best yet, I am an excellent lap-warmer. In fact that is my favorite job. Come down to One of a Kind Pet Rescue as quickly as you can - the sooner we meet, the sooner we can get started on our life together!

Meet Maxwell!

As you can see, Maxwell loves everyone and is easy going and fun loving. He's quite the playful cat! Check out his picture - he is grooming his buddy "Jason" as the lay together in a bed basket. Maxwell is one of the favorite teenage kittens at the adoption center and he will just melt into your arms. He is dog and cat social and he's ready for his forever home! ...Are you ready for Maxwell?

Maxwell is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Julia!

Are you looking for a cat that's black and white, and silly and fun, and just an all-around good-natured buddy? That's me! I like people (big or small), other cats, and dogs. In fact, I like just about everything. I can stay really busy chasing toys and just about everything else. If you let me play with the ring that was around your milk jug, that will suffice in place of toys. You see ... I am easy to please and low maintenance. I could amuse myself for hours! What are you waiting for? Because I'm here, at One of a Kind Pets, waiting for you!

Julia is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained, and spayed/neutered.
Meet Lorna!

Hello, I'm Lorna and I'm looking for a home. My goal is to fit in with your life. I enjoy spending time with people, and especially like being petted. I'm quite talkative once I get to know you, and will be happy to spend time with you. When you're not around, though, I can pretty easily amuse myself. I believe I'm just the right mix--I'll be there when you want me, but I'm not one of those "needy" types. Why not come to meet me? You won't be disappointed!

Lorna is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.
Meet Amelia!

This sweet and quiet cat enjoys spending time with people, but it is ok with her to be alone for a while too. She appreciates an afternoon peering out the window and soaking up the sun while everyone goes about their day around her. If you choose to engage Amelia, that's fine too --- she goes with the flow. She enjoys playing with cat toys or just keeping each other company in a calm environment. Showing you her contentment, she'll purr loudly when petted. This little cat hasn't any issues and will do great in any home. Come down to meet her --- she's worth the trip!
Meet Tula!

Pssssst...over here......in the corner.....it's me, Tula. If you come to One of a Kind Pets, that's where you'll find me. There's just an awful lot of activity here....lots of other cats and there's dogs, and then those smelly puppies....don't get me started. I would really enjoy moving into a nice, quiet home. I may be a little shy, but once we get to know each other, I'm sure we'll be good buddies. I really enjoy a good head scratch, and toy mice are quite fun to chase. And, please don't tell anyone, but I love to curl up in a warm lap. I just need time to get to know you. Why not give me a chance?

Tula is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

Meet Chondra!

Hi, my name is Chondra and I am FIV+. What does that mean? Well, I have the kitty version of HIV. Don't let that scare you - I can't transmit it to you or to your dog. The vets suggest that I be in a home where I am the only kitty or live with other FIV cats. You see, I got it from another kitty sometime ago. He bit me and that was all that it took. And, I have to tell you, I'm a lover, not a fighter. I currently reside at the clinic with two other kitty friends, Shylo and Sammy, and we never fight. The doc says FIV+ cats live over ten years. So that would be a pretty normal life! For those of you who are not aware, there is a vaccine available for cats that is about 85% effective. If your kitty mixes with others, it is advisable to have the shot administered. I am very content to sit in your arms and purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr; however, I do like to play. I have met lots of dogs and they're alright with me - and I'm alright with them. Please call ahead if you want to meet me; I hang out across the street from our Adoption Center and can be seen by appointment. It's my secret dream that all three of us go home together - imagine that!

Listen to Vet on Your Pet: FIV

Meet Shylo!

Let me tell you, I have had it rough! As you can tell from my handsome picture, I lost an eye to infection. I am also FIV+. (That means I have the kitty version of HIV.) But, let me tell you, I don't let any of that get me down. I can't pass anything on to you or a dog. I'm a lover - not a fighter, so there is no chance of me passing it to another kitty. And, if I ever get into a fight with another cat, that will be a first! I have two cat "best buddies" -- Sammy and Chondra. FYI: there is a vaccine for FIV that is 85% effective. The doc says I could easily live to a grand old age. I love chasing laser lights, and really like hanging out with people. And, when you're busy or not around, I am very content to gaze out the window and soak up the sun! Please call ahead when you want to meet me -- I hang out across the street from adoption center with my two buddies! (Maybe you're looking for 3 amazing cats?)

Meet Sammy the Cat:

Hi, my name is Sammy and I am FIV+. What does that mean? Well, I have the kitty version of HIV. Don't let that scare you- I can't transmit it to you or to your dog. The vets suggest that I be in a home where I am the only kitty or live with other FIV cats. You see, I got it from another kitty sometime ago. He bit me and that was all that it took. And, I have to tell you, I'm a lover, not a fighter. I currently reside at the clinic with two other kitty friends, Shylo and Chondra, and we never fight. The doc says FIV+ cats live over ten years. So that would be a pretty normal life! For those of you who are not aware, there is a vaccine available for cats that is about 85% effective. If your kitty mixes with others, it is advisable to have the shot administered.

My very favorite activity is jumping into the arms of my people friends. With a simple clap of the hands, I can leap approximately three feet to get to my person! Then, I am very content to sit in your arms and purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. I like to play, and really like chasing laser lights. I have met lots of dogs and they're alright with me and I'm alright with them. Please call ahead if you want to meet me; I hang out across the street from our Adoption Center with Shylo and Chondra. It's my secret dream that all three of us go home together - imagine that!
Meet Specks:

Hi! I'm Specks! You probably can't tell from my picture, but I have little white specks throughout my coat. Guess that's how I got my name! I am looking for a "forever home" that needs someone around to keep an eye on things. I don't need to be the center of attention, but I do enjoy observing everything that's going on around me. And, I will look forward to a nightly head scratching sessions were the two of us can catch up with each other! I'll listen to what happened during your day and I'll assure you that I had a comfortable day while I awaited your arrival. Come and meet me -- I'll anxiously await your visit!
Meet Deidra:

Hello, I'm Deidra. I'm here at One of a Kind Pets, waiting for you to come and take me away. I enjoy people and toys. I don't really like a lot of other animals though, and kids can be intimidating. But, you and me? That would be perfect and a match made in heaven. And, I will actively play with you and my toys - it's a good time! It's not necessary to give me all your time, but surely we can share the evenings together, can't we? Come on over and meet me. I'll be here and I'll pack my bags in case we will be leaving together!

Meet Annie:

Hi, my name is Annie. I am looking for a nice quiet home. I am what you might call a "classic cat". I don't jump right into relationships ... I need to get to get to know you first. But I promise, your patience will be rewarded with purring and head rubs once we become the best of friends! And, listen, while we're talking, let's get it all out there - I'll probably hide from children visiting the home too. They can be just a little too active for my comfort level. How 'bout just you and me, and a few cat toys? Come and meet me at the adoption center - I'll be waiting.

Meet Smokey

Hi my name is Smoky and I love to interact with people! I'll talk to you, rub up against you, and give you the occasional stroke with the top of my head! I like to share activities, so when you open your mail, I'll check to make sure you didn't forget anything in the envelope. If you're making the bed, I'll jump up and supervise the project to make sure the sheets are on there just right! I'll even check out the grocery bags to make sure you didn't forget to put something away! No thanks necessary - that's just the kind of cat I am. Oh - one more thing, I do need special food. The adoption counselors can tell you all about that when you come to meet me. Now, I will patiently wait, but please get here fast!

Meet Mommy, our "sweet girl"

Dumped at the pound, pregnant and all, we took her in and helped her during her impending birth - and then later helped all of her babies. Mommy had a litter of four kittens and was an excellent mother. She loves attention - in fact, she is starving for attention - and will be a great house cat. After all she has been through, she deserves a great home and the opportunity to feel loved and secure. She will give back so much and longs to be the best companion ever! If you are looking to add a feline to your family, Mommy may be the cat for you! Come down to meet this sweet girl at the adoption center.

Meet Our Puppy:

We can't keep her a secret anymore! She is just too cute!! This adorable Chihuahua pup is looking for a home. She needs a secure home with a lot of love and attention. She is the last of a litter of 3 & she needs you now more than ever. This is the age when they begin to understand structure and routine. Puppies don't want to fail and because they depend on you to teach them, you must be present! The longest they can be left alone is for 4 hours at a time -- after all, they are babies!!! With appropriate attention and routine they will grow to become the adult dogs you want them to be. Do you have what it takes to be the best pet parent ever? If so, we have the best pup ever

Are you comfortable with a puppy? If so, her next home may be with you!

Keep in mind: her next home must be her last! She doesn't deserve another "life change" - NOT EVER!

Meet Roseline

Roseline is an unusual looking cat. With bengal cat markings, she is striking! Very social, she likes to greet everyone. Roseline wants to know what you are doing and will make it her business to find out. She is a perfect, low maintenance cat. She will give back so much and insist on becoming a family member. If you are looking to add a feline to your family, Roseline is the cat for you! Come down to meet this sweet girl at the adoption center - you won't be leaving without her - she won't let you!

Meet Lily

Lily is a shy and very sweet feline. She had a litter of kittens and was a very good mom. With her kittens in homes, it is Lily's chance to get adopted. She has her favorite wicker basket bed in our adoption center and observes the commotion going on daily as potential adopters come thru and both feline and canine friends run around. Lily needs a quiet home and a loving family to care for her. She will give back so much and demand so little. If you are looking to add a feline to your quiet family, Lily is the feline for you! Come down to meet this sweet girl at the adoption center - you won't be leaving without her!

Meet Trinka

Hi I'm Trinka. I need a home ... Do you need a roommate? I think you'll enjoy my company. I'm just the right mix of cat....I like being around people, playing with toys (especially little mice, as you can tell from my picture), and being petted. But, I can just as easily spend the afternoon gazing out the window, soaking up the sun. I'll be here when you get home, ready to listen to you talk about your day and ready to share a meal with you. I'll settle in on your lap to watch some television, and purr loudly when you scratch behind my ears. But I'm not one of those "needy" cats, know what I mean? Why not come down to One of a Kind Pets and meet me? I'll anxiously await your visit.
